Has anyone else heard any news about prominence? It’s so strange that they released a few decisions in the beginning of December and then just put it on hold? Based on past years it seemed as if they consistently released batches every friday until winter break…Someone correct me if I’m wrong
@gsumkin I’m not sure about scholarship release dates, but I know they did acceptances different this year. Last year they did it every Friday if I remember correctly from reading other threads. And this year they only did acceptances once a month. So they may be doing the same thing or something similar for scholarships as well.
Last year they also did acceptances once per month. The year before that they did them more frequently for EA.
I got an email a few weeks ago for the Prominence, and another email two weeks ago (or so) with information on the dinner and interview for Distinction.
Exciting but nerve-wracking stuff (especially because I’m not too great at interviews)-- but good luck to anyone else waiting for news!
Congrats @textsize ! Was it sent to your regular email or your osu.edu? And how long after you were accepted did you receive the email about Prominence?
Also, does anyone know how the interview process for Distinction from previous years is like in terms of questions asked? Is it basically a guarantee you’ll receive Distinction if you’re invited for an interview or are people actually ‘cut’ based on how their interview goes?
Does anyone know what would happen if I applied for Morrill but got deferred from OSU? Will I hear back once I get my decision?
@Hm0416 That won’t happen. The Morrill office wouldn’t get your file for consideration until you’ve been admitted.
So will I still be considered for Morrill?
You will if you get admitted before they finish reviewing applications.
Hey I was accepted into Ohio State University- Columbus on Dec 17th.
I just realized that they have been closed from December 18th to January the 1st. Actually the first week of January until the 8th the offices will be opened but classes closed.
Considering that they were off for winter break, when can I expect to hear from them?
Does anyone know if you receive Buckeye does that have anything to do with still being or not being considered for Morrill?
Buckeye is offered by the Admission Office while Morrill is offered by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion… decisions are independent from each other. The only caveat is once you get Morrill any scholarship from the admission office will be taken away.
However, Morrill doesn’t substitute specific schools scholarship (eg. Fisher) or Alumni Association scholarships.
@lab99 “once you get Morrill any scholarship from the admission office will be taken away”, so that means for those who have gotten both Morrill and Buckeye, the Buckeye (offered by admissions office) will be taken away? I thought it said on their site that the 2 can be combined.
@simple0920 National Buckeye can be combined with Maximus, Provost and Trustee Scholarships, not Morrill.
Hey all! I am currently a first-year student at The Ohio State University and I am in the Morrill Scholars Program. I also live in the Morrill Scholars Program Learning Community and I was awarded the Distinction level of the scholarship. I would like to offer myself as a resource to anyone who has questions about MSP, the Learning Community, or the Distinction level of the scholarship and that process. Feel free to message me or add the questions here! Also, if anyone knows of the MSP 2022 Groupme and want to add me that’d be great so I can help others who might have similar questions! Thanks!
Hi @jaysoneric8 .Not sure if you’d know but if you’re in the MSP and Scholars, will you be placed in a dorm based on your Scholars program or will you be in the MSP dorm? Also, How many years do you spend in the MSP dorm?
Also, were your interview questions for distinction simple? If you’re offered an interview, does that mean you’re highly likely to receive distinction or are people actually ‘cut’ based on how their interview went?
@oreo32 I am not in both MSP and Scholars but if you are in MSP and Scholars, you will be required to live with your Scholars program. IF you apply to live in the MSP Learning Community, you will have to choose between the Scholars program and the MSP Learning Community. So just to reiterate, if you don’t apply to the MSP Learning Community, you will automatically be placed with your Scholars program. If you apply to both and get accepted to both, you will have to choose between the two. If you are accepted to the MSP Learning Community and choose to live there, you will live there for the one year then have to re-apply for the next year. I am currently in my first year in the Learning Community and recently completed my application to come back for my second year. I feel that the interview questions for distinction were on par with the program and expectations for how they wanted their Distinction recipients to represent the program. If you’re offered an interview it means that you simply are offered an interview and have the same chances as everyone else going in for that interview. The distinction selection process is fairly selective meaning not everyone who gets an interview gets awarded the scholarship. However, if you are offered an interview and have the opportunity to go in-person, do so. The interview helps MSP get a feel for you as a person and they want to know YOU not the you that looks good on paper but is not personable. I hope this helped!
@jaysoneric8 Thank you so much! Did you receive another scholarship (Prominence or Excellence) before you were invited to do an interview for distinction?
@jaysoneric8 about when did you first hear about it? Also if you don’t get distinction do you still get to keep prominence?
