Morrill Scholarship - Class of 2017 (2013 HS Seniors)

Apps are all in! Hopefully this thread will allow Morrill applicants to share if they’ve gotten accepted to the Morrill Scholars program! Based from last year, students will most likely receive letters early March. Please feel free to post questions or anything helpful regarding OSU’s Morrill scholarship program! It will benefit us all!

Thanks for making this! I have been looking at class 2016’s thread so it’ll be nice to look at one for this year

I applied but I doubt I’ll get it. Haha I don’t think I live in the right place, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to apply.

Last year, notifications were announced on CC the first week of February…why do you expect March this year?

Maybe because of the switch to the Common App?

For what it’s worth, I emailed them and was told all applicants will know one way or the other no later than the middle of April. Really hope we’re not waiting that long.

I found out from last year’s forum that people who are invited for the interview are notified the first week of February and those who just qualified for the Excellence were notified at the end of March. Those who were notified were told the 30th or 31st of March by email.

Offthewall1979, Don’t worry! I’ve had several friends who were no where near “Appalachia” region and still get the scholarship. I am also living no where near Appalachia but as long as you have the academic requirements and a decent essay (regarding the prompt), you will be a strong candidate!

nicNAT13 and Enolamae, Good luck! =D

MommyDearest, my friend got his email notification around mid March. But I do think it’s because of the switch from direct supplements to the Common App. I also found last year’s forum and they said that they got their emails in March. However, I don’t know the actual process so if you’re correct, the emails will be coming in this week! =D

It looks like the deadline last year was earlier so it would makes sense if announcements are later this year. Last Feb, there was at least one person who announced getting the full tuition (not the invite for interview.)

Did any of you receive notification of their receipt of your essay?

I had to do it through email and they never responded to it so I’m just going to hope they got it?

Afrojack, You can check your Common App for your OSU print preview. The Common App sends you a confirmation email for your application AND the supplement. So if you got a confirmation email for your supplement (and you’ve checked your print preview for your essay), that means that OSU recieved it and confirmed it as well.

For example, this is my confirmation email from appsupport

Dear Joshua,

Congratulations! You’ve successfully submitted a Supplement to the following:

The Ohio State University

You must also submit your Common Application and Application Fee to this institution if you have not already done so.To check the submission status of your application and fee, please visit the ‘My Colleges’ page of your Common App Online account at http://www.commonapp.org.

Thanks for using the Common Application Online!

Sincerely,
The Common App Online Team

I didn’t do it through the Common App, I forgot. They emailed me the form and I submitted through the reply with an attached document.

Afrojack, I submitted my essay the same way, and I was emailed back about 30 minutes later confirming they had received my essay

Can anyone chance me for the Morrill? I’m Hispanic from California, and have a 1340 SAT… I rank in the top 20% of my class at a competitive Catholic High School

Coltsfan6709, a large portion of the selection process is truly based on your response to the prompt. So if you sent in a killer essay, I would say that you have a good chance. Keep us updated!

@candice: should I be worried that they didn’t email me back then??

@afrojack I wouldn’t worry yet. I would email them and ask if they received your essay.

Does anyone know when we will find out? I’m freaking out about it and really hope I get in!

Candice1695, Recipients from last year said they got their notification emails around early March. A little less than a month! I hope you get in as well!
