What do you guys think of the "Adam Morrison vs. J.J. Redick" discussion for the college b-ball national player of the year? Who do you feel has the edge for that award at this moment, and who do you think will make a better pro?

They are both pretty amazing players right now. I'm not sure either will be so outstanding in the NBA, though I'd say it would be Morrison. By the way, when is the last time ANYONE from Duke (except for Grant Hill, who is perpetually hurt) made it to the NBA and stood out among the best of the NBA players? I can't think of anyone but maybe you Dookies have an answer?

I'm surprised the media's not making a bigger deal out of the fact that the two best players in college basketball are both white.

Elton Brand has started coming into his own in my opinion.

Redick is a pure shooter, a player's player. Amazing, but unselfish. I don't really follow Morrison but i think that he has the edge because of the simple fact that even though he has diabetes (who doesn't see him taking shots before the game or during breaks?), he still manages to be arguably the best player in the NCAA. However, it does hurt Morrison that he does not play in the ACC seeing as how Redick drops 40 points on the best defense in the country.
HAHAHA, they r both white, that's funny.

Last night on espn somebody said that Morrison cant guard a bank. his defense is really terrible. i would take redick.

Id say JJ, both are amazing, but like it was said before, JJ faces much tough defenses than the mid major one bid conference that Gonzaga is in. JJ dropped 41 on Texas, who at the moment is projected to be a number one seed in the tournament. Morrison did have 43 against Michigan State, but I believe that game went into triple OT. JJ's defense is better, although people say his defense is weak, I dont buy that, you dont play for coach K for 4 years and develop great defenseive skills. Anyway, I think both will earn player of the year awards much like JJ and Bogut did last year.

first of all, the fact that morrison has diabetes does not matter in a debate on who is better at basketball.

secondly, morrison plays in a crappy conference and is averaging the same amount of points as JJ. JJ consistently scores over 30 against good ACC teams. I dont want to do the math, but he is probably averaging 32-34 points / game against ACC and ranked teams. His worst scoring performances came early in the year, when the games didnt matter.

I dont want to take anything away from morrison, he is an amazing player. he is leading his team to an amazing season. However, this is JJ's year.

Morrison is probably going to be the better NBA player, he has more variety of skills. JJ is the best shooter and he's playing the toughest teams in the nation, while Gonzaga plays in a cupcake conference. JJ would be my choice for Player of the Year mainly because Duke has only one loss, while Gonzaga has three.

For CC purposes, who ever has the higher SAT/ACT score wins!!!!!!!!!!

jk

I like Morrison, but I think Redick will win.....

No, I think Morrison is the better player. Granted he does play in a weak conference, he shined in his nonconference games this year. He had something like 45 against Michigan State. Also, Redick has a much better supporting cast, with Williams, Paulus, and Dockery. Teams are doubling up on Morrison.

morrision had 43 in a triple over time game against michigan state

JJ had 40 against UVA while only taking 13 shots from the field...

Does anyone here actually watch college basketball? Morrison is ridiculous. You should see some of the stuff he throws up which he manages to make on a consistent basis. It truly is incredible and there's no one else, either in the NBA or in the college game, who can score the way he does. (The fact that he's no where near as good as Larry Bird made me realize just how amazing Bird is.) Also, if you took Morrison off his team, they'd be extremely mediocre, while Duke would still be nationally ranked.

And although Morrison does play in a weak conference, they have played a RIDICULOUS preseason schedule--one of the hardest in the country. Morrison has shined in these games. You have to give the nod to Morrison, even though Redick is clearly a brilliant player in his own right.

Morrison is better
Despite what you guys are saying, the Zags do not play in a "cupcake conference." Schools like St. Marys, Santa Clara, San Diego, and San Fransisco all have some tradition and have made it to the NCAA tournament or beat Gonzaga in recent years, and last year the WCC was among the top mid major conferences. Though the teams have worse records this year, they are still competitive. St. Marys forward Daniel Kickert is a 3 point threat and is 6'10, he nearly led his team to victory over the Zags. There are other examples also i just dont want to go through all of them. Gonzaga also played a ridiculous non-conf schedule, took UConn down to the buzzer in Maui and beat MSU in 3 OT.

Strong cases can be made for either player. But clearly, Redick deserves it more. Not only will he be Duke's alltime leading score by year's end, Redick will be the NCAA's alltime 3-point and free throw shooter. Morrison may face more double teams than Redick, but NOBODY is confronted with as much pressure or abuse as Jj. He has had a target on his back since the start of his junior year. He fights off screens, takes hard hits getting to the line, and delivers when it matters most. He's arguably one of the greatest shooters of all time. Insane range from beyond the arc. And maybe most importantly, he consistently performs agains top-level teams of the ACC, the most competetive conference in college basketball. The competetion Morrison has played against doesn't even come close. Being the most hated player on the most hated team in America, J.J. Redick sure knows how to quiet a crowd, something he has done for four years now.

Morrison's skills will transfer a lot better in the NBA than reddick's

Reddick is the greatest college scorer, but in the NBA he is a tad too short to play SG and doesn't have the handles and good court vision to play PG and plus nba atheletes are a lot quicker so he'd have significant trouble, at least at first, getting his shot off

Morrison i say is a top 5-10 pick while Reddick is mid to lower 1st round

However, despite Reddick's weaknesses, if he played as a role player next to a superstar, say lebron, wade, KG, Duncan, TMac, Kobe Redick would thrive and probably have a solid career comparable to jeff hornacack

JJ is a 6'4" shooting guard who steps inside the three point line once in a blue moon, and he still is fourth in D1 in free throws attempted. He has also not had more than three fouls in any game this year. He is on a whole different plane in the mind of the referees and gets hometown calls both home and away. If it weren't for this special treatment by the referees (you're not really allowed to play defense on him without getting whistled) and the number of moving picks Shelden gets away with to get him open...

Morrison meanwhile is 6'9" with an amazing shot and very high release. He couldn't guard a bank, he looks really funny dribbling... but man, can he score! We're talking possible #1 overall material, so don't even pretend JJ's going to be better in the NBA, and I think Morrison is definitely the better college player.

Morrison is without a doubt the better player.

Morrison will be a great SF in the NBA while Redick will be a lesser Reggie Miller

I don't even think Redick will be a lesser Miller. I think he'll be a Wally Szerbiack who can play defense somewhat.

agreed. i love duke but jj does not have much of a future in the nba in my opinion. he wont develop into a star like he is in college basketball because hes a spot shooter - he cant create off of the dribble. and his defense/athleticism is suspect.
