Morse College...How Bad?

I was just placed in Morse. How is it? I'm pretty disappointed because I wanted any of the other colleges besides ES/MC and I was unlucky. I'm disturbed because Morse was ranked last on the satisfaction survey based on residential college.

Was it is known for? What notable events does it throw?

My 13 year old wants to be a morsel. He loved the architecture when we visited his sister in the fall. I think you will find that it will become your new home and enjoy it. I can’t answer your other questions. Most of my D’s close friends are from her ECs not her RC. Get involved with your passions and you will make friends inside and outside your RC.

Not bad at all. Morse has a fantastic dining hall and basically double the basement (because it shares with Stiles). The architecture grows on you, although it is a bit annoying when you’re furniture doesn’t fit into the corners of the room (because there are no right angles).

Believe it or not (based on my highly unscientific survey), everyone is unhappy about their college at first. Think about it, if you’re in BK/PC you have to live in LDub freshman year. If you’re in ES/MC you don’t get the “pretty Yale architecture,” and if you’re in SM/TD, you don’t live on Old Campus. That’s already HALF the colleges that someone might not like upon receiving their assignment. DC/JE are kind of far from the center of campus and SY/BR have less than stellar dining halls. TC/CC are kind of small and are just kind of there. TC also has weirdly small courtyards and some people don’t like that. There, I just found a reason for every kid in your class to be disappointed about his or her college, but the beauty of the system is that YOU WILL LOVE YOUR COLLEGE ANYWAYS. Going into college assignments, I was praying for anything but BK/PC because I did not want to live in LDub, and after I got my assignment (not BK/PC), I was wishing I had been place in one of them. BUT YOU WILL LOVE YOUR COLLEGE. The architecture/location/dining hall/amenities are all secondary factors, but the PEOPLE there (including and even especially) your Master and Dean are what make the college experience so valuable.

Also, I’m just going to throw this out there, but that college satisfaction survey was done like…a long time ago… I don’t think that anyone who took that survey even goes here anymore, so there’s an entirely new group of people on campus who have different opinions than their predecessors.

Yeah, my daughter was initially upset about being in TD and missing the Old Campus experience, and being so far from the “center” of campus. But as a STEM kid it has its advantages being close to Science Hill, and she loved being in her RC freshman year.

Relax. Morse and ES are the most recently renovated colleges, which you will quickly come to appreciate when you are actually living there as a sophomore. You will quickly get over your Hogwarts longings when you see how nice and up to date the facilities are. And as for your freshman year, Durfee is a beautiful old building in an extremely central location (see the description of it, which you asked for in another post, in the Wikipedia entry): <a href=“Morse College - Wikipedia”>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morse_College</a>.

That satisfaction survey was old news, before all the Morse/ES reno was complete. As others have told you: You will love your college!

Thank you everyone! I’m really looking forward to Morse now!

Morse achieved the highest overall GPA during 2012-13. The reward was a prime rib dinner for all Morsels, including the new freshmen of course.

Also, the pizza in Morse/Stiles is amazing and the shared basement/gym is terrific. Everyone loves Morse/Stiles now. You should be thrilled to be there!

Dd, who is not in morse, likes to eat at morse/stiles because she likes the food much better than her RC. It’s also near the gym and open late, so she and her sports group likes to go there to eat after practice. There’s comraderie with many different sports teams eating late together.
