@northwesty - It’s an unfunded (except for those receiving FA, I believe) multicultural visitation program for accepted students. D got an invite with her Chancellor’s notification/acceptance packet, but she may have a conflict with another school’s scholarship finalist visit (or at least we hope she will!!).
Congrats to all those that got Chancellor’s…D’s in good company, it seems.
@northwesty What state/city region are you from? I don’t mean to be intrusive, I’m just wondering if I didn’t receive an invite or if I still have another day of waiting. I’m from Seattle.
Any California applicants receive the invite? Bay area?
It came to So Cal via snail mail as part of a package telling D that she got the Chancellor’s Scholarship. They aren’t footing the bill and the dates may or may not work for us, but, we’ll see…
When was it postmarked? @LoveTheBad
Do you think that I shouldn’t wait for the mail and that I probably didn’t receive anything if California already got it?
Are chancellor’s scholarships so far awarded to only ED students? Or are some of you RD?
My kid was RD. So getting the admission decision and the scholarship were both completely unexpected this week.
@wannabetrojann - Unfortunately, we tossed the envelope yesterday, so I can’t see when it was postmarked. But apparently people on both coasts received it yesterday.
@OHToCollege - my kid was RD.
The envelopes were mailed on February 10 with a UPS tracking number and say “expected delivery day: 02/13/2017.” And my kid was RD and got one, but I am pretty sure that I have read on CC that ED kids do get these. I went back to look at prior year’s MOSAIC threads. That being said, the Vanderbilt web site says that these things are very rare, so not getting one does not mean a person is not a qualified candidate and it does not diminish their chance of scholarships/financial aid…so good luck to all!
I got accepted yesterday, but applied for no scholarships. However, a scholarship information session is scheduled for the visit, so I’m curious as to what that’s about
Is it worth going to mosaic if I already got into Michigan in state? I would have to pay much more for Vanderbilt cuz my family makes 180k+ a year unless I get the Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship (which only like 2% of ppl get) which doesn’t come out until March Michigan and Vanderbilt seem comparable for premed (umich has better med school) and umich in state tuition might be a better value also I already visited Vanderbilt last summer for prevu
So someone who gets Mosaic is guaranteed a seat in the freshman class? What if they are not able to go to the multicultural program?
@chocolatina1001, the MOSAIC Multicultural Program in an invitation. Attendance is not required for admission into the freshman class. The letter begins “Congratulations! You have been admitted to the first year class entering Vanderbilt University in the fall of 2017.” I hope you receive a letter like this before this admissions cycle in through! It sounds like tomorrow is release of EDII decisions. Good luck to all who applied!
So am I reading this right? So far, the Chancellor scholarships have been awarded to students that are admitted via the Mosaic program? Are all awardees so far URM?
No…my kid is not URM but was most likely admitted MOSAIC due to activities involving bringing different groups together, facilitating discussions about contentious issues, and being a leader in the community.
Also, I suspect there are additional CS’s to be awarded to EDII and RD applicants. I don’t think the CS was tied to MOSAIC at all. I think the CS was tied to high stats, essays and recommendations.
Thanks very much @Sam-I-Am. Congratulations to you!
My kid is same as Sam’s. Non-diverse suburban kid who just got awarded a Chanc scholarship and got admitted RD.
Mosaic seems to have some confused branding. While titled as a multi-cultural recruitment event, it also seems to be an admitted students event for kids (like mine) who are currently undecided. I actually called Vandy up to make sure the invite was not issued in error to my white bread kid.
For URMs and other kids who are not yet accepted, maybe a Mosaic invite is kind of like a likely letter?
Don’t know, but would guess they wouldn’t invite ED1 and ED2 accepted kids (since they are already committed) unless maybe they are URMs. And since it happens in mid March, would also guess that most RD kids don’t get invited either.
so do we have to pay for transportation and hotel costs? will not attending affect our chances of getting the cornelius vanderbilt scholarship? also, does being invited mean you have a higher chance of getting a cornelius vanderbilt scholarship? I already visited vanderbilt for prevu last summer and will only attend vanderbilt if i get the cornelius vanderbilt scholarship otherwise its significantly more expensive than my state school university of michigan since my familiy makes over 180k i dont think we will get much financial aid.
I think they invite URMs and people with a history of engaging in diverse communities (hence white students with Chancellor’s Scholarships being invited). It is mainly minorities who are invited, but white people who show a particular interest in diversity also seem to be candidates for it.
Yeah, I’m an Asian female (which is a pretty overrepresented group) but i talked about how i promoted awareness of the Asian-American community in my activities essay, which I think is the reason why i got invited.
