I got invited for this. What exactly is it? The letter says it's basically to recruit students with culturally diverse backgrounds. Is scholarship involved??? (crossing fingers) And why does the scholarship weekend everyone here is talking about (March 19-20) start right after the MOSAIC people leave (March 16-19)?? Hmmm...I feel like the little kid who has an early bedtime.

But according to some posters, there's a good chance I'll get a scholarship in March, even without being invited to that.

Is anyone else invited to MOSAIC?

There are no scholarships associated specifically with MOSAIC. It is an event to try to diversify the incoming class. The fact that MOSAIC takes place right before scholarship weekend is probably just coincidence; there are only so many times in march and april that students can come to campus.

Also, I would have to take issue with the statement: "there's a good chance I'll get a scholarship in March" without being invited to the scholarship weekend. There is a chance, but not necessarily a good chance. Like an admissions officer said when I visited last year, most people's reward for their hard work in high school is the acceptance letter itself into Vanderbilt. So, if you weren't invited to the honors scholarship weekend, don't lose all hope, but at the same time don't think that it's nearly a sure thing that you'll get a scholarship offer at the end of March.

Best of luck and I hope you choose to attend MOSAIC weekend so you can see what a great school Vandy is!

Slipstream, I see your point, but how many people are invited to the honors scholarship weekend? Isn't it 50? But for people who don't qualify for financial aid, Vanderbilt awards about 230 of those people some non-need based aid, with an average of $13,216. However, I understand this includes NMFinalists, who get $5,000 if they don't get any other scholarships. I need at least $17,000 to make Vanderbilt remotely affordable in the eyes of my parents.

But considering that they sent me an admission early, i have nice stats, and they are paying me to visit, wouldn't I get a more-than-average scholarship? This is just my (hopeful) reasoning.

Also, I know this isn't really related but I know from previous posts that you didn't make Emory Scholars last year, so I was wondering if they gave you anything at all? For example, I didn't make Emory Scholar but I got a $12,000/year Liberal Arts Scholarship (whatever that is)

51 are invited to the scholarship weekend, at least according to the letter they sent out to all of us asking if we'd host.

I agree with you that your stats are above average so you probably do have an above average chance of getting a scholarship, although I want to say again that it is not guaranteed. I have an Indian friend who had I think around a 1500, was valedictorian, took a whole lot of APs/IBs (graduated with IB diploma), was invited to MOSAIC, and did a ton of stuff in high school, but he didn't get a scholarship (of 1/2 or more tuition). So: yes, you have an above average chance but no, it's not set in stone.

I've got my fingers crossed for you!

Two years ago, my D received a nice scholarship to Vandy and she didn't get invited to the scholar weekend - so there is hope :).

I was invited to Mosaic and I think that I'll be able to attend. It sounds like a fun program so I hope I can make it.

there is hope, there is hope...it's so hard to wait like this, haha

yes, MOSAIC sounds like a fun way to visit, better than a regular campus tour

I'm going to MOSIAC! Does anyone know about how many people were invited to attend?

Im going too, where are you all coming from?

I'm coming from Eugene, Oregon.

Just be aware that since this event is mostly for minority students hosted mostly by minority students, it doesn't exactly paint the most accurate picture of Vanderbilt.

coming from Mississippi

Does Vanderbilt pay for flights and everything for MOSAIC?

Admitted One: I'm in Corvallis and my daughter is considering Vandy for next year, so I'll be interested in hearing the comments of an Orgonian.

Have fun!

coming from knox, tn.

entomom, for mosaic vady offers a 100 reimbursement for those w/ diff. paying, and other than spending money most of the costs are covered
