lucky, won't have to listen to your parents jabbering at you for 6 hours.

got mine today in North NJ.

half hispanic.
2150 SAT
top 10%
3.8 UW 4.4 W

So do you guys think Vandy accepted minorities with lower scores simply because they are a minority?

You guys all have great stats, so I'm assuming they didn't give minorities that much of an advantage. Aka: can we expect non-minorities with these stats to get in?

If there is a slight advantage to being a minority, that means us crackers are going to have to have better scores than these to get in, which makes this even more stressful since I only have a bit better stats.

I'm from the bay area mandolive.

hopefully my parents let me go alone!

got my letter today! Chinese male.

Vandy is the only school I applied to where I got affirmative action instead of its reverse.

Not many Asians at Vanderbilt?

Whoops, forgot my stats for you guys.
SAT: 2400
GPA: 4.54something weighted, 4.0 unweighted
Rank: 3/675ish
Asian

Asian stats are asian.

So do yall think if I didn't get an invite by today, Monday holds any hope?

Do you think it hurts your chances of getting a MOSAIC invite if: 1) You listed Vandy as #1 choice for NMF. 2)You attended a recent PREVU. 3) You wrote a really good Why Vandy essay. i.e. If it is clear that you are pretty set on going there, so there is no need to "recruit" you?

I believe I def had the stats/essays to get in, so I am slightly upset that I haven't gotten an invite.

From Birmingham, AL.

ah, we've found the only school where it helps to be asian in the admissions process :)

i'm going from indy and possibly bringing parents.
so, does anyone know what it's like to be a minority at vandy? i know they'll tell us that there's a ton of diversity, etc. but i've heard a few accounts of borderline social segregation. that's the biggest strike against them that i've found.

got mosaic invite yesterday. pretty awesome to find out early.

hispanic
2270 sats
790 math
770 writing
710 cr

33 act

cross country/ indoor track (captain) /outdoor track (10 varsity letters so far)
letter of commendation national merit scholar
national hispanic scholar
i also play the saxophone

marchmadness, i listed vandy as my first choice for NMF so I don't think it had a negative influence on my chance to be invited. Also when did you get the opportunity to write "why vandy"? I didn't fill out any supplementary essays.

Aurora, I agree - thats one of the few reasons I'm hesitant about attending vandy.. But we'll talk to students and get more information at mosaic anyway :)

Got a Mosiac invite today in the mail!
Pretty psyched about the acceptance, although I probably won't be going down to Vandy for the actual program.

Four of my dear friends have been accepted. All are African American.

Friend A
ACT: 32
Class Rank: 3/441

Friend B
ACT: 29
Class Rank: 9/441

Friend C
ACT: 26
Class Rank: 2/441

Friend D
ACT: 27
Class Rank: 1/34 (Totally different school.)

Yes, Vanderbilt is known for segregation. All races tend to cling to the same race.

My Vanderbilt Interviewer, whom has now become a close friend, also African American ('07 Graduate, HOD, President of something there (Her name is De'Anna Woodson.)) was able to tell me that Mosaic Weekend is the ONLY urban activity that Vanderbilt conducts. (Urban meaning step shows, RnB/Rap Music played, etc.). So, do not be fooled.

Also, all acceptees, be sure to thank Tiffany Huggins, since she is the one who is over Mosaic Weekend (I am 95% sure about this.).

I have read on CC for years about the self-segregation on campus and my kids have commented that was true to some extent. However, I was on campus over the weekend for D's Mom's Weekend and twice I spent time parked outside of Towers waiting on D. Both times I noticed several small groups of diverse students heading out/coming in from wherever and thought of this thread. Vanderbilt can only promote, rather than enforce, diverse relationships among students. This is my 7th year as a Vanderbilt parent and I see some small changes, although obviously my exposure is limited to a few trips each year.

Wow. I had no idea Vandy gave early letters!! I was checking (anticipating rice or duke.. haha dreaming). Nice surprise. My letter was dated the 11th...but I just got it :P

Yeah I just got mine yesterday..I figured I hadn't gotten one and had given up hope...

Congratulations to your friends, VandyPrayer. I can't believe they were accepted with those ACT scores!! I received a 2280 SAT/35 ACT and didn't get an invite.

Was this program mostly for African Americans?

I'm Middle Eastern. Not sure if Middle Eastern is a URM at Vandy (although from what I hear, every minority is under-represented at Vandy).

Congrats to everyone again! I'm just waiting for APRIL now!

i wish they had ED III!! lol

^^ well i'm asian, and there are other asians in this thread...
