Most absurd college acceptances at your high schools?

We all hear the horror stories about Asians with 2400 SAT and 4.0 GPA rejected from every IVY while "undeserving" URM candidates get into major prestigious universities with subpar stats. What are the most absurd acceptances you have seen in previous graduating classes?

Korean: low-income, family makes 10K, Questbridge finalist, 2270 SAT, 34 ACT, 800 Math IIC, Rank 9, took multivariable calculus, linear algebra, diffeq, combinatorics, varsity xc, track, swimming, soccer, water polo, math club president, robotics team, jets team national finalists/2nd in nation, aime qualifier, amc 12 school winner, himcm, other math competitions, solar cup, csf, nhs, speech and debate, mock trial captain, tutoring, went to 5 summer programs, RYLA leadership…rejected at Princeton, Yale, other Ivies, going to Pomona.

mexican- also low-income, Questbridge Finalist, family makes 20K, 2200 SAT, tutoring, teen committee, top 15% ranking, went to mexico to help/volunteer, took ap calc ab senior year, good essay writer. accepted at YALE. going to YALE.

wth??

then: Asian, rank 1, math club, robotics, solar cup, JETS Team national finalists, varsity cross country, track captain, CSF, red cross volunteering, NHS, 36 perfect ACT, 800 math iic, 800 biology sat ii, ap scholar with distinction, took 4 college math classes. rejected at harvard, stanford, princeton. going to UC Berkeley.

then: White, 5-person legacy at Stanford, robotics, debate, xc/track varsity head captain, 2150 SAT, took 2 college math classes, rank 4 out of 550, red cross tutoring: going to Stanford.

Asian, Very High Income, Rank Pretty Damn Low, 1480 SAT, 3.2 GPA, two years of Math club, two years of Tennis, and no other EC’s. Went to UC Berkeley.

sheesh, these are pretty disturbing :/

1480 SAT how is that possible lolol

And this is bad because…?

2’s asians make me sad. D:

890/2400 SAT, 3.1 GPA, URM, average ECs, Ok Recs, nice essay. Going to Harvard; GOING TO HARVARD. Can you believe that? Harvard!

beatfreaks: Athlete?

1 Asian Korean shocks me. How can he got rejected by Ivies?

Japanese dude: didn’t give about anything. Was NOT passionate about a single activity, 2100 SAT, joined clubs and ran for positions to throw on college application, slacker and very laid back, didn’t take activities seriously, going to YALE

@cornetking: maybe that guy is a legacy/ extremely rich

A kid with a .9 (yes, .9) GPA was accepted to Dickinson State and got into honors because of his 29 ACT score.

^How in the hell is that possible. Unless he was mentally disabled- there is no way anyone going into high scvhool shoulkd get that score. He had to be seriously trying to fail every class ever…god.

Haha - why are you so surprised? Having a strong legacy like that means that you are in.

What I think is more disturbing is how you guys know their stats so well =P…

Um lets see… I know a guy who got around a 1900/2400 on the SATs, was on varsity tennis, and dance crew.

Got into Carnegie Mellon. I thought the guy was really really smart, but never really tried in class. As far as I remember he was very gifted in programming…

LoonLake…Im LMAOOOO after reading that. LMFAOO.

god dammit this is depressing.
im asian and i can tell you im NOT number 1. far from it.
fortunately i still retain my sense of self worth.

bump cuz this is a good thread

the 890/2400 getting into Harvard is absurd. I don’t believe it.

SAT scores are pretty worthless.
