Most annoying grammar/spelling errors?

I, like most CC members, am a grammar Nazi. I get so annoyed by people making stupid grammar and spelling mistakes on Facebook, Twitter, etc. What common mistakes are the most annoying to you?

Mine are:

-irregardless
-your/you're
-their/there/they're
-for all intensive purposes
-it's/its
-affect/effect (my own AP Euro teacher didn't know this one!)
-lose/loose
-i.e./e.g.
-than/then
-could of, would of, should of
-definately
-my BIGGEST pet peeve is when people don't know the difference between possessive and plural. "These fork's will help you eat your food"

No one seems to know how to spell “definitely.” I usually see “definately” or something ugly like that.

Also sophomore. I’ve seen sophmore, soffmore, and sophmoor.

It really bugs me when people abbreviate, using things like “thx” and “ikr” - the Internet has made us lazy! Let’s learn how to spell, ppl (just kidding).

I second everything in OP’s post. That possessive error really is annoying. In general, blatant spelling errors are my pet peeves. I saw “speach” this morning.

I could care less is my number one.

What’s wrong with “I could care less”?..never mind.

You’re supposed to say “I couldn’t care less” because that says that you care so little that it’s impossible to care less.

My least favorite errors would be spelling errors. The other grammatical ones bother me, but not as much.

If the error obstructs the meaning of the text, then it can be a little bit irritating (lack of punctuation is a big one, severe spelling mistakes can be a problem as well). But being annoyed by someone who confuses something trivial such as affect/effect or who/whom is just whiny, elitist pedantry IMO.

To/too annoys me, but most of the time I’m not bothered about stuff like this.
And when people say same difference, that makes no sense! Maybe it’s just because only Americans seem to say it, but it’s still pretty annoying.

I say same difference in a joking manner when someone corrects me about something.
For example:
Girl1: I eat food on sticks all the time.
Girl2: like what?
Girl1: Hot dogs…
Girl2: Hot dogs? You mean corn dogs?
Girl1: Oh same difference.

That’s the way I use it and this conversation did occur in real life.

i’m not really annoyed by them online (in text). mostly i just feel sympathetic when people make them because however trivial and meaningless they should be, you do notice them unfortunately.

the ones that are perceptible to the ear in real life can be annoying though.

I have quite the list.

The difference between “your” and “you’re”. It isn’t that hard to deduce the difference between the two, people.

Text speak. Hate it, hate it, hate it. Even when I text, I don’t use unnecessary abbreviations unless I’m in a hurry.

The difference between “their” and “there”.

The difference between “two”, “too”, and “to”.

Disregarding commas, semicolons, and the like.

@ Niquii77 That’s the sort of thing that really annoys me. Here we say same thing, which makes so much more sense. Basically you are saying that there’s no difference or that they’re the same thing. Mixing the two and saying same difference is just strange.

Is anyone else being really careful about their grammar on this thread? :D

LIKE this if YOUR a Facebook idiot who doesn’t know grammar, COMMENT if YOUR the reason China will destroy us in 30 years.

If you’re going to whore for likes on FB you could at least honor 3rd grade grammar rules.

Yeah, I always get bugged when people say same difference. I always say same thing.

Are you guys kidding? I’m not a native English speaker, and I never make such mistakes. And I’m not being conceited.

I say same difference. It’s just an ironic saying when you say two things are the same when they’re clearly different.

@Zep it’s different for you because you LEARNED English. Native speakers learn English from their surroundings and since one believes thy know a language when they currently speak it, they don’t pay attention to grammar.

Im actually not anoyed by ne errors like that, its just stupid for you to critizice ppl for those, like, mind you’re own buisness!!

Yeah i does not understands why peopol got to critisize lol. Hope I didnt just make anyone grind their teeth.
