Most Depressing Movies.

Sand & Fog is a great depressing film. I love films that don't use manipulative devices to make you feel for the character by the acting and subject matter, but no random illiness or plot devices.

Xyrus, you're not alone in like depressing films, I am a happy person yet I like these films. I think they challenge me to see something that I wouldn't have thought of before like injustice in the justice system (Dancer in the Dark), humanization of addicts (Requiem for a Dream), two flawed people fighting hopelessly for what they believe in and need (House of Sand & Fog).

Sidenote about these types of films: I think that by watching these movies a lot of people just turn off and don't get into the characters b/c it is very painful to do but by doing so I take something away from a hard-to-watch film by experiencing it, not just watching it. I think most people don't like movies to challenge them and want to enjoy things but after every movie I watch I want to think differently and see the world in a different way.

one flew over the cuckoos nest and sling blade where pretty sad

Grave of the Fireflies (as some posters mentioned)- the last 10 minutes of the movie are probably among the saddest scenes of any movie I have ever seen. There is some blood but it isn't too violent (ex. after their mom is hurt, the top of her body is covered in a slightly reddened skin cast and there is of course a great deal of destruction).

Finding Neverland...the ending makes me sad, how the two of them embraced on the park bench and slowly faded away.

And yes, I'm a dork, but it gets me every time when dear Forrest Gump speaks to his wifes grave.

Stepmom
Schindler's List
Pianist

The Perfect Score

In America
21 Grams
