Most effective study method (for you)?

Taking practice after practice test timed hasn't helped me very much. Are there any other better methods? Thanks.

Practice after practice is dumb. Work on each section individually with prep books. Taking test after test will only end you up with the same score, or in the same range. Trust me.

are you suggesting go through all the verbal sections of all the test; one after the other?

after working on each section individually you have to take practice test so that you can be used to the pressure in the exam room. you feel very good when working on a section, relax, and go on but on the test you have to run.

Most effective study method? Spend half the day sleeping, a couple hours on CC, a couple hours watching paint dry, and the rest of the day picking your nose.

^ lol…best way to study is just assimilate information all the time, everywhere. I asked my parents for an e-dictionary so if I ever see a word I don’t know I just type it up and memorize. You can add such applications on i-touch and i-phone too. Other than that, just make sure that after you take a practice test, you focus on your mistakes and really understand the in depth reason for your mistakes. Practice isn’t dumb, its just HOW you do it.

its just HOW you do it

it’s

practice test after practice test is only dumb if you don’t know how to do it properly

my score increased 320 points total over 1 and 1/2 week

i guess methodology is a factor too

-.- superficial…way to be picky

Wow… asian sensation your a beast! 320 over 1 and a half weeks! Crazy… how did you do it?

I’ve started to peak - consistent 800 M, consistent 750+ CR (got an 800 last time so I don’t care as long as I get 750+) and now a consistent 78-80 W MC.

What I did:

-Read all the strategies FIRST, don’t attempt any problem sets. Make notes as needed (not entirely necessary). I used Grammatix, and Barron’s 2400.
-Do an entire test (broken up into a section a day!!!) with unlimited time, and try to get as PERFECT as you can get. Leave no stone unturned in your quest for the right answer.
-Analyze carefully your errors - since you had unlimited time, you need to now see what you can do to be able to get those questions under pressure.
-Do a section a day, in a very focused manner. Go over EVERY mistake, carefully. Figure out how to do an similar problem in a quick amount of time. Memorize the vocab words you didn’t know (this is the only time I memorize vocab).
-Then put it out of your mind and exercise, etc

The best way to do it is to do a section of the test a day, so you can keep focused!

Now it’s time for me to learn the hated essay.

wow asian sensation, 1 test a day does work eh? 320 points in 1-1.5 weeks! what was ure original and what is it now?

i think on purpose he intentionally tries his worst on the very first practice test.

lol, that would be a waste of a practice test

hahaha! Now THAT is an effective way to up your score!

You can only say how much you have improved after you take the real SAT, go home and study, and then take it again. I also think it depends on what score you started out at too–it’s harder to improve when you are already at the upper part of the score spectrum. 320 points in 1.5 weeks…haha!

EDIT: I’m being serious this time…not like my previous post on this thread

im serioussssss ><

don’t make fun, and no i don’t mess up on one test and then do better on the next one.

i do a lot of what lolcats4 does, except take 1 test a day, go over it, then later in the day re-do the problems i got wrong

Edit: sure, when i first started, i was at a 1970, but now im at a 2290 =</p>

***f that’s amazing.

I got a 2380 on the SAT the first try so I think my methods are good.

Buy the Gruber guide and the official study guide. Memorize every word in the 4000 word list over the summer if you can. Make sure you know all the algebra/geometry stuff.

Take one practice test per Saturday (not from Gruber’s, its practice tests aren’t accurate. Use the blue book). As soon as you finish each one, grade yourself, and figure out why you made the mistakes you did. Write the specific GENERAL error that led to you making that mistake (eg, not reading the questions well enough, making a bad assumption, etc.) and spend about 3 minutes imagining yourself not making that mistake again.

Rinse and repeat 10x, until you run out of practice tests.

Keep reviewing your list of mistakes and incorporate the act of NOT making them into every new practice test you take.

Eventually you will run out of mistakes to make. There’s only so many ways to screw up.

Every night close your eyes and imagine yourself walking into the testing center and taking the test, incorporating all your techniques. This prepares you mentally for test day.

If you have a lot of time this method is foolproof.

wo, that’s amazing.
