Most flawed applicant in the nation

Myself: Permanent Resident/Black/Male, Public High School.
Prospective Major: Biology (but really undecided)
GPA: 3.77/4.0 (9 Bs in junior yr, 4 Bs in senior yr)
*Moved to another school b/c my old school was lousy- bad city school w/o honors or APs, filled my schedule with AP courses though I never experienced taking one, difficult adjustment to everything new, 5 Bs in honor/AP courses in junior 1st semester, 4 Bs in 2nd semester, 4 Bs on mid-year report (all As in classes but didn't feel good when took finals, so I bombed on them, this is very frustrating to know that I'm very close by 1-2 pts to As), by the way, there are no pluses or minuses - so A is 94-100 and B is 86-93

Rank: Top 30%
* When I transferred, I was automatically put in top 30 because my old school didn't offer any honors/APs courses in my freshman & sophomore year, while my new school gave my classmates an advantage of taking them, increasing their weighed GPA dramatically. So, I'm behind them.

SATI: Math 700 / Writing 720 / Reading 540
* I'm completely deaf; thus, I can't receive vocabulary through verbal speech. This is common for other deaf students as well. So, if I'm not deaf, my reading score should be in the range with my other scores.

SATII: MathIIC 750 / US History 610 / Bio (this Sat.- expecting 700+)

AP: 4s on 2 AP exams

Good recommendations (perseverance and always improving in classes are my strongest qualities)

Good essays

Harvard (just for fun)
Yale (just for fun)
Princeton (just for fun, although I was deferred from ED)
Brown & PLME
Dartmouth
Duke
University of Virginia
University of Massachusetts Amherst
Boston University
University of Vermont

I know I don't have chance in most of those schools, but it's too late to change my application. Just tell me the truth- what do you predict in April? Accepted, rejected, or waitlisted?

I'd say you have a shot at all of those schools, because all of your flaws can be explained due to circumstances. Definately in at BU, Vermont, UMass, and I wouldn't be surprised if you got into a few of the other schools. Good luck!

Seriously? I'm really worried that my senior grades might be the last blow, putting me out of the race because I'm supposed to show improvement on my mid-year report.

You are a URM and have a disability so that will definately work in your favor as far as the admissions go. You have great ec's and if your essays and recs are solid, you'll have some good news coming your way in the spring.

Your ECs and test scores are decent. I understand why your class rank is low, and I'm impressed that coming from a disadvantaged school, you took rigorous courses. You seem hard-working and passionate about math/science. However, your grades may hurt you.

Yale/Princeton- rejected
Harvard- accepted (likes diversity)
Brown- accepted (but not PLME)
Dartmouth- accepted
Duke- waitlisted
University of Virginia- accepted
University of Massachusetts Amherst-accepted
Boston University-accepted
University of Vermont-accepted

Just my two cents. Maybe you'll get in all schools. Let me know what happens in April! Good luck!

I think I remember reviewing you on admissionchances.com
Given your circumstances, you've tried your best. good luck wherever u go to

Yeah, I was "fireball" on admissionchances.com. But, I just updated my stats and included additional info.

Thanks for your nice predictions. But, I think you are too nice or optimistic because my grades and test scores are way too low. If I don't have any chance, just say it.

You have a reason for ur lower score. So they will definetly put that into consideration..

Dude, your black, you're in everywhere.

But, I saw many "URM" applicants with stellar stats get rejected from Ivys. So, being black doesn't guarantee an admission into colleges. Sorry if I keep sounding pessimistic-I'm just hopeless and anxious.

9 Bs so im taking that GPA is weighted

No, it's unweighed. I think my weighed GPA is like 4.04ish.

whoa you must had like lots of A+, isnt a B like a 3

Yeah, I took so many classes with As. In fact, I take an extra class after school for two years to help my GPA.

Any more opinions or predictments?

Honestly I think you got a good shot at all those schools. You got a lot of things going for you even if you don't want to admit it. You are incredibly hard-working, not only that but deaf I might add, which is in your favor for admissions, and on top of that you are an URM. Plus you got good EC's, and pretty good SATs. You have good explanations for your unfavorable stats, which I may add does not seem like you are trying to make excuses at all. If I saw your application, I would definitely try to offer you admission into my college. You are able to not let a disability hurt you, and that will appeal to the Adcoms.

Well, I kinda disagree with other CCers. You have a lot of things going for you. But, I'm concerned about your grades. I think there's too much Bs across your transcript- your chance would be improved so much if you improve your senior grades to show that you can handle rigorous workload. So, it's hard to say, but I honestly don't think you have solid chance in HYP and maybe Duke and Brown. Sorry, man, if I'm harsh- but that's the truth.

I"m wondering if those schools can even teach a totally deaf person? sorry to hear about your disability =/

I think the stats are too low for the Ivies + Duke + possibly UVA, even w/ URM & special circumstances. HYP & PLME isn't going to happen; Brown, Dartmouth & Duke maybe; UVA good shot; you're in at the rest.
