Most Frustrating Thing about High School

Lack of sleep. No sleep = can’t focus = does poorly on tests = teachers get angry = assign extra homework = even less sleep

-when people with no ECs who just watch netflix all night ask to copy homework and DONT EVEN READ THE REQUIRED MATERIAL like come on people
-the fact that the majority of the people in my school only COMPLAIN and are never gracious about their education or even show any joy in learning
-teachers that are overly easy or just flat out don’t teach- like seriously?!? They’re just wasting our time when we could be participating in more beneficial classes or just SLEEPING
-the amount of time wasted in school in general! like half of class isn’t even learning, it’s useless tasks like handing out papers, going over homework, or answering stupid questions. I believe the school day can be significantly shorter than it is now, and if shortened, we could actually get some adequate sleep for crying out loud!

-The 80 minute long lectures
-BUSY WORK
-How much homework I get. I can’t remember the last time I had school and went to bed before 1.
-My Chemistry labs. We have the get the right answerfor the postlab questions, but we can’t use the internet, and we always have no clue what the answer is.
-The difference in material covered between honors/AP and thhe regular classes. My Chemistry honors class has covered 2x the material the regular chemistry class has learned.
-The short lunch. 25 minutes is not long enough to get your lunch (takes 10-15 minutes) and eat it.
-Clubs meet during lunch??? No wonder why nothing gets done during club meetings.
-Being one of the youngest in my grade. 1. I start driving after everyone. 2. Age for some reason is a big deal to some people? Like, they’ll get excited over being older than someone.
-Stupid schedule which causes me to memorise 10(!) different schedules (1/day), and keep track of which schedule I use (A1-5 and B1-5).

kids in my class who alienate me because I have no desire to attend their silly parties, and smoke weed with them at lunch. and yet, I’m the one who’s going to Harvard… I hate high school.

@oxohawja3xoxo amen to that! Someone was really surprised that I don’t drink (unless you count sparkling grape juice). On the bright side, at least there’s only one semester of high school left.

Most frustrating thing for me is when there is a cap on the number of AP classes you can take each semester. So, instead of taking AP Lang and Comp you take regular composition, where the seniors spend the whole class period “roasting” each other, and you can’t help but wonder what you did in a past life to deserve this tomfoolery.

GPA loopholes. Or more or less, the top 10 competition.
Examples:
Non-GPA affecting classes (better for the GPA than a non-honors/AP course and little to no work work required) – I actually wish I could go back and take useful courses than waste the free education.

Dropping a class with a bad grade and replacing it with the above non-GPA affecting course near the end of the quarter to avoid the GPA hit. Yes, a top 10 student with a GPA of 4.6x has done this.

Weighted classes that let you take them multiple times. Either stop wasting time taking the same course or trying to milk the system.

Community college class boost–people used to take random easy courses for this. (This is disappeared for my graduating year and after. Now very few students take courses at the community college lol)

Skipping GPA hurting classes. Yes, people find ways around graduation requirements that hurt the GPA such as doctor excusing out of PE or challenging them instead of taking them.

I did what I can, but ranked 13 (probably could’ve guaranteed top 10 if I used more loopholes) and wish I could’ve put more weight on extracurricular activities and engineering classes than compete for top 10. The competition itself is a burden that people put too much effort into and neglect club office positions and prepping for interscholastic academic competitions.

Comparing stats and colleges of attendance. I just want to do what is the best fit for me. I currently go to a low tier school that gives me bargain pricing and specializes all the way down to my subfield of electrical engineering. Can I just do what I want to do without being judged? And I could care less if you’re better than me in subject areas that I’m not focusing on.

The obsession with grades and scores and college apps. Also, not being able to walk on the grass.

College Applications. Nuff said.

@RandomMuse‌
College rejections. I win, gg. :stuck_out_tongue:

@OrangeAndWhite Seriously?? And people wonder why teachers have such a high turnover rate. Have a little respect, don’t act like being a teacher is a lowly profession.

People who say stuff like “school is dumb” and “I hate this school. It’s lame af”…Like, you’re lucky you have the opportunity to go to school at all. If you don’t want to go to a university, fine, but don’t sit there and say that school is dumb or lame just because you’re lazy and don’t care. You’re incredibly lucky to go to a safe environment and have the opportunity to learn. A lot of people don’t (aka freaking Peshawar).

@pmmywest‌

With that logic, nothing is a lowly profession then; as long as some devout proponent of any career’s goodness exists, regardless of the existence of any factual or statistical evidence to back him, that career is, in fact, a well-respected profession.

gg no re

@Reallycoolshoes, with all the school shootings these days and regular dangers like bullying and drugs, I don’t know that I would classify school as “safe.” SafER than some countries yes, but not “safe.”

People who want to copy work, or ask for the answer to a problem without starting it. I would be glad to help you out with math homework, but if you don’t show initiative, I’m sorry. I’d much rather see you learn something than just come to me expecting an answer.

And this - when teachers give out homework. Say it is due Thursday (it’s Tuesday). I go home and spend the next two nights staying up until 2am finishing it because it’s a long assignment and I’ve got other homework to do.

Go to class Thursday, teacher gives the kids until Monday to finish it because some people “forgot about it” and didn’t finish it. WHAAAAT??? I LOST 6 HOURS OF SLEEP BECAUSE OF THIS!!!

People who decide that everything they aren’t happy about in terms of grades is because “the teacher doesn’t teach us”. Sure, there are definitely some teachers who are more adept at teaching and getting through to their students, but this excuse is usually by someone who refuses to take the time to go talk to the teacher in question to get clarification or extra help, and shows no initiative or interest in the class. It just bothers me that people are so quick to blame teachers for everything when we go to a school better than probably 98% of the world has access to, for FREE. UGH it drives me crazy!

@foolish I don’t know why I need “statistical evidence” to state that being a teacher is a respectable career. They’re the ones teaching students while dealing with severe cuts in funds, low salaries, unsupportive administrators, crappy parents who blame everything on them, and lackluster, disrespectful students.

Also, I never stated that a teacher is a “a well-respected profession.” I know that teachers in the U.S. are not respected. What I’m arguing is that they SHOULD be a well-respected profession.

I have friends who I took honors classes with in middle and early high school and I know they’re smart and have potential, but because of a few bad grades they have stopped taking advanced classes and are just set on community college.

I also wish people would only be officers in clubs that they are passionate about. It’s very frustrating when you have meetings and even the officers don’t show up.

I hate the pressure of high school- “having” to go to an Ivy League and get a certain GPA and a certain SAT score in order to be deemed “good enough”. I’m also annoyed with the fact that people seem to only do things to improve their resume. Granted, sometimes I’m guilty of that, but for the most part, I think passion should be the main motivator, not an Ivy League.

-The whole GPA loophole is ridiculous. The current valedictorian at my school somehow took online PE 10x for the GPA boost. She’s missed half the school year for sports and basically gets what she wants because all the teachers “love” her.

-And it totally SUCKS how some of the “elite” kids and parents who are favored by the teachers somehow get straight As by “talking” with the teacher. As in secretly bumping it from a B to an A, but not doing that for anyone else.

-AND GET THIS: Two kids at my public school transferred from an elite private school with a shi*load of credits on their backs BECAUSE THEY KNEW THEY WOULD SMASH EVERYONE IN CLASS RANKS. They basically annihilated anyone’s hopes of becoming valedictorian/salutatorian, and pushed everyone back two spots. Rank’s not a huge deal for me, as long as I’m in the top 5-10%, but lord do I want to strangle those two. They basically planned the whole scheme out from 5th grade to now.

Now if that doesn’t raise your blood pressure up to the roof then I don’t know what will.

I think one of the most frustrating things about high school is how we really just have too many things on our mind. For a lot of our parents, it seems like high school is all about getting that diploma and getting into/preparing for college. But a lot of the times, we are also figuring ourselves out at this point in time. We constantly worry about things like getting a girlfriend/boyfriend, being popular, and being better than our peers. It’s not so much the academics that are stressful but the entire combination of social qualms and academics.
