Most Frustrating Thing about High School

I totally agree with the whole pressure to take AP/honors classes – I haven’t taken a core CP class. Ever. Period. It’s because peer pressure and my friend group consists of basically all honors students who are all pretty competitive and take the most rigorous course available to them. Thank God I take CP electives like Orchestra/Chorus and Creative Writing or I wouldn’t make it through high school (and there are still some people who use their elective space for more APs!).

Aside from academics, I really hate the cliquey-ness of high school. At my school, there’s the “Asian” group (I’m a part of that lol), rich Jewish girls, misfits, outcasts, etc., and I feel like it’s hard to break the barriers of a clique. The friend group I’m in is pressure-filled and we all worry about college a lot. Social life is hard at high school. I feel self-conscious a lot and I’m associated with two other girls who often leave me behind (they have a lot more common interests). It’s hard to extend beyond the “group” you’ve been assigned and make new friends. I’d say I’m pretty good socially, but even for someone like me, social life in high school kind of stresses me out (it’s all so judgey and cliquey) and affects my academic side. I can’t wait to go to college and start anew.

And the fact that the Bible Belt and (name of my town) Bubble exist. YES THERE ARE GAYS, MUSLIMS, AND ATHEISTS IN YOUR SCHOOL YOU WON’T GO TO HECK FOR IT PLEASE STOP TELLING US WHY AND HOW WE’RE SUPPOSEDLY WRONG WE DON’T PROSELYTIZE KEEP YOUR OPINION TO YOURSELF PLEASE THIS IS A PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

And my school administration is like “we’re the best in everything”

Band- top 10 in the state but not 1. Well, idk, could be top, band works hard and is very awesome.
Sports- we kick butt in girls tennis so give them more credit pls but we’re actually not #1 in the state for football
Academics- lol nope second or third in a district of 9 high schools

On the whole, everybody involved in teams works hard but there’s some misplaced credit.

About 1/4 of people don’t lock their lockers and subsequently forget their locker combinations, yet it’s “not acceptable” to close and lock them after school and laugh the next morning. Smdh.

But on the whole, I rather do like it. Can we get rid of sports pep rallies and support the goshdarn BAND?! They work harder than all of us.

Don’t get me wrong, I do like my teachers and classes.

The Act Science part made me feel stupid. Do they truly expect high school kids to interpert such complicated charts

@kayrenaepeterson well, yeah, I know several people who have done it just fine…

The most frustrating part of high school for me has been the competition, or maybe just a feeling of disrespect among my classmates. In fact, there is often blatant trash-talk with regard to our college chances… And the constant bragging among my peers gets old too. I could tell lots of insane stories about our cutthroat atmosphere, but to sum it up: I’ll be really happy to graduate.

Gym class. I haven’t benefitted from it, it gives me panic attacks all the time, and the fact that if it wasn’t state regulated I could be much farther ahead in classes/subjects I do like…ugh

The toxic, unforgiving and cruel social atmosphere. People are extremely judgmental and rude, and people always gossip or talk behind people’s backs. Not to mention how bullying and picking on people happens way too often; sometimes people just can’t leave others alone. Almost everybody around you is a hormonal idiot. There’s also way too much drama going on about who fought who, who’s in a (fake and short-lived) relationship with who, etc.
You often get made fun of for the dumbest things, and there’s a largely emphasized social hierarchy.

I guess it might be better in higher tier high schools though.

Honestly I would have to say the entire high school career is such a drag. Can I just wander the world? So much more learning and life lessons that are practical comes from that.

I want to get ooout of heeere

Many of the kids in my classes are very, very low achieving. It’s starting to get me down, and with my school’s heavy focus on group projects(!), I’m starting to lose sleep keeping my grades afloat.

It feels real hard to make friends when halfway through the year, nobody really seems to show any common goals or values. :frowning:

My school has a student body of <200 and outsources many Junior and Senior-year courses to the local community college, so… it’s not like I have many places to look as a freshman. >.>’

It’s so frustrating when your semester grade of ‘A’ literally depends on an ‘A’ on the exam and you get a B. :frowning:

I LOOOVVVEEEE my highschool and just highschool in general. But there are a few things I don’t like:

I wish freshmen and sophomores could go off campus because there are a bunch of stores that are walking distance

I hate that they switched from having an hour lunch last year to a 30 minute lunch because I’m pretty much shoving my food down my throat

THE BATHROOMS. Good lord most of the bathrooms aren’t bad, but there are these bathrooms in the “pods” that are absolutely disgusting. It’s like people don’t know how to flush

Overall I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else:)

people making out in the hallways need to STOP. Jeez. You have the same 6th period class. You’ll see each other again. And you’ll definitely break up within a few months.

35 hours of class a week. Its just a waste of time.

too many silly liberals

People in honors English who can’t write

like at all

and just have no real English language skills despite being in an English-speaking environment literally their whole lives

try reading a book

maybe then you’ll know how to spell “open”

@LordBendtner “He who is not a republican at twenty compels one to doubt the generosity of his heart; but he who, after thirty, persists, compels one to doubt the soundness of his mind.” - Jules Claretie

Having to take classes that are pure memorization.

Most of the “work” they give out not only is boring but takes time away from actual study

Teachers not teaching at all. I mean 7 hours of school is just a waste of life. The public school/education system k-12 really sucks
