Most Important Element Other Than GPA

What do you guys think is the 2nd most important aspect of a transfer students application behind a strong GPA? I understand this is a hard question to answer depending on intended major and many other factors, but just approach it from a general perspective.

a) work experience

b) ECs (clubs, campus involvement)

c) volunteering

d) Essays

e) Other (specify)

Major preparation is a big one.

i think for transfers

the essay is BIG, they wanna know ur transfering for the right reasons

if ur essay reads, this kid is only comign here for a brand name, then ur prob not gonna get in

u really got show that ur gonna be an asset

like my essays, recs, showed that i am a very passioante person, i did research, community service, active in class discussions, and a pleasure to be around...

What are some suggestions of things to write about in your essays to show how interested you are in their school other than simply talking about a unique major? Should you talk about their campus environment, professors, location, prestige? I have heard that keeping it simple and honest is the best thing to do when writing essays. Is this true?

If you're applying to the UCs in California, they want you to write about yourself, your qualities, who you are as an individual, etc. I think this is what the essay topics are targeting.

eanicich - yes, i would say keep it simple, honest, and straightfoward. also, rather than provide a laundry list of complaints about your school, write about what you want in a school and, for each reason, how the school you are applying to satisfies it and the school you are currently at does not.

for example, i talked about - campus size, environment/location, campus life, core curriculum (or lack thereof.... what i was looking for :) ). there were others i had originally included, and when i had another person read it, she told me to eliminate them... honestly, simple and straightfoward is best. they will be able to see the geniune feeling and emotions behind it :)
