Just out of curiosity, what does everyone think the most important event in history was? From any time.

September 11, 2001 the nation and the world was changed forever.

invention of writing...more of a process than an event, but civillization as we know it would have been impossible otherwise

birth of christ??

The invention of the printing press.

The invention of writing was, of course, pivotal, but since it arose in several societies independently, I have a tough time saying it was the most important event in history -- if it hadn't happened in one society, it would have still happened in another.

Agriculture and the domestication of livestock was important too, but again there's the issue of all that arising several times independently.

You stole that from the list of things important in the last Millinieum!:)

if you want to talk about OUR history (no religions, etc) then it's EASILY world war ii.

september 11th? compared to wwii? lol please..

for our generation 9-11-01 will be the defining moment

um, id say the creation of the universe. that's quite important.

lol we're talking about OUR history and not the supernatural, religion, etc. but our experiences/the stuff WE did.

and wwii was def. the nastiest thing ever. yes our generation 9/11 was devastating but remember what the title says 'in history'

wwii it is.

The Industrial Revolution.

Invention of language

That's funny, I thought corinnas54 started the thread. I don't see how you get to decid the parameters of the conversation.

Anyway, I didn't specify the method of the creation of the universe (Big Bang, God lets there be light, something about a turtle in one Native American religion, etc). Just that the universe started. There would be NO history had that not happened.

most important event in recent history is the invention of the integrated circut. thank you kilby.

I've got to go with the printing press.

The invention of gun powder without a doubt.

...when man landed on the moon...

i can't imagine that man will step onto any other body in the universe during the rest of my lifetime.

When CC was founded :D

ok ok, lol I'm jk. Seriously, in my book the American Revolution and formation of the United States is quite significant indeed.

You know, I'm going to revise mine, since I've noticed that all the above events depend upon one thing.

The establishment of Mesopotamia. Without the devlopment of civillization, I guess there would not be much of a topic here.

I second CDN_dancer; the Industrial Revolution is the birth of the modern world (in the sense we use the word modern, not like geologically modern or something).
