Rain gear and a fan for no A/C dorms

The photos of family/friends. I had mine in a photo book frame that I flipped through when I felt homesick.
My wireless mouse
tension rod and curtain for my closet
plus a lot of what others have listed!

Definitely ear plugs. I didn’t realize my roommate would turn out to be so crap- best $5 investment anyone with a roommate can benefit on.

Also an Ethernet cord because the campus Wi-Fi can be sort of crowded.

Electro-man: flexible thing for plugging lots of things into

Laundry bag that hung in closet & has straps for backpacking down to the laundry room.

3-hole punch

Printer (some people find it helpful; others not so much)

stapler

multiple alarm clocks

storage ottoman that worked also for climbing up into lofted bed

-A printer (no running back and forth to the library or waiting in lines!), backup ink, and paper

-A new, reliable computer

-Ear plugs and an eye mask

-Shower sandals

-Shower caddy; easier to carry everything instead of lugging it in your arms

-Extra storage bins

-Memory foam mattress topper

-A stapler

-Flash drive (!!!)

-A cordless laptop mouse

-A floor rug

-Dishes and silverware

-Mini vacuum (I had the same Dirt Devil as the above poster)

-A drying rack for laundry (there aren’t enough doors/chairs/windows to hang your dryer-unfriendly clothes)

-An umbrella

-A TV and DVD player (I went 3.5 years in college without one and yes, you’ll miss watching TV!)

Ear plugs seem like the #1 suggestion…is there a particular kind/brand that work well?

I asked my son this question as we were moving him out of the dorm today and he said a bath mat for the bathroom (he was in a suite with a bathroom shared by 4 students). Without it the floor would have gotten very wet and slippery.

My SWEATPANTS!!!

This was compiled for Brown over the past 2 years, but has a lot of excellent general suggestions that would help any parent/student get ready. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/1190502-dorm-info-freshmen.html

Oh, having my own printer and not having to share with a roommate (i say this because often the deal of "i’ll get the printer you buy the ink- is struck between two roommates and the person who buys the printer buys a cheap one-which means the ink is like 50 bucks)

stapler, tape and ear plugs

and a 3 hole punch! still need to purchase one of them myself haha

Funny, the one school supply item we brought home that my freshman daughter never used was her three hole punch!

Variable speed dual window fan. No A/C in dorm.

I knew I would be lofting my bed, so I bought a little pouch to hang over the rail of the bed. It was such a good decision, because constantly climbing down from my bed to get stuff would have been such a pain. It was especially handy when I was sick, because I was able to keep tissues, vicks vaporub, and cough drops close at hand if I needed them during the night. I got in from Bed Bath & Beyond.

a good walking shoes… you’d be surprised how much walking you do (from classes to dorm to dining rooms, etc).

yeah, it definitely adds up. I probably walk about an hour a day, just from going to classes and the occasional meeting afterwards.

Headphones
Extra cushioning for matress
Blistex

Raincoat, boots, and umbrella!
