Most Irksome Interview Question

Inspired by the Penn board.

Mine would either be (both from a Rice interview)
1) "How would your friends describe you?"

Um, isn't that really asking how I would describe myself? Is there really that much of a difference?

2)"If you were principal for a day, what would you do?"

I didn't know if that deserved a serious answer or not. I considered joking about going into the registrar and changing my grades to make myself valedictorian, but then I remembered Rice's honor code and thought it best not to say that, just in case. I ended blathering something boring about teaching the kids in regular classes (our school dropped in rating because we have an awesome AP and IB program but our regular kids fall between the cracks).

"What were the arguments you used in your best debate?"

(I am on the debate team)

Hah, those suck... I'm sorry. Yale's weren't bad, but how dull was the supplement question! I was embarassed to answer it. Am I not going to get in for saying that?

My favorite moment from my interview:
Interviewer: "So - when was a time you recall being really nervous?"
Alyssa: (nervous laugh) "Trying to figure out what to wear for this interview - I didn't have a suit!"
I didn't tell him about my 15-minute Kohl's shopping spree to put together the entire outfit I had on, figured that would be an overshare... (Kohls: Where the cheap, er, classy shop when they're late.)
That, and the moment memorialized in my friend's AIM info (her sn is try TO detach).

so what were your best arguments? ;)

My favorite (for a friend applying to Columbia)

Interviewer: So, do you like the city? (Referring to New York)

My friend (thinking the topic of conversation was still Jerusalem, where he grew up): Nah, I don't really like it.

Interviewer: What?

My friend: Err, what I mean to say is, I like it, but I wouldn't want to raise a family there.

Interviewer: Have you encountered any racism in your current school?

me: Err...

Interviewer: You do know that there's a lot of white on black racisim in the States?

me: Err...

"If the NYTimes called and said, 'We want a 500 world article on our desk by midnight,' what would you write about and why?"

My Reed interview. Worst. Interview. Ever.

First question my interviewer asked: What do you do?

Um....do what? where? when? at school? in my spare time? to give back to the community?
