Hello,

I am an incoming transfer student for fall '12
I recently checked the schedule of classes and it shows that most of the classes are full?!

For example, MGT 5 is already full with several people on the waitlist. And my enrollment date isn't until late August.

I am worried that I will not be able to get any of the classes that I need for the fall quarter.

Any thoughts?

They will add more seats (even classes) for transfers so don’t worry too much :)

Keep checking class schedules that are open. Now is the time where people are dropping classes the week before they begin…Check two or three times a day, because youre not the only one looking. My dau wss trying o make some time adjustments.just remember,Dont drop a class before youre accepted into another…or you will have a mess.good luck.let me know whst happens, shes attending UF,a huge school.if she can do it…so can you!

“Dont drop a class before you’re accepted into another”

That’s not possible if you’re already enrolled in 16 units (techinically 19.5 max), which most people are. Getting waitlisted in a class counts towards the max units you can be enrolled in.

Try using the 10% rule, which about 10% of the class will drop. So if you’re enrolled in a class with 200 students, expect about 20 people to drop. So if you’re #10, you have a good chance of getting in.

Are they going to add a lot more classes for transfers and freshman in the future?

Thanks for the advice guys!
I am just disappointed because I thought when attending UCSD, it would mean I would be getting an education where I would not have to be constantly fighting for classes that I need through waitlists.

I’m not a transfer so I can’t say too much on your case but for me as well as most people i know, they can usually get the classes they need. You just might not get your preferred professor or time. I would think you wont have too much of a problem since UCSD wants you to graduate as much as you do. There are several occasions for me where they opened up more seats or another section when they notice that people who need the course can’t get in.

@oxyklean: overall, most people (as stated above) will get into the classes they need. you might have to switch your schedule around a bit, but if you stay flexible you’ll be fine.
and you’re also talking about a lower div GE class that multiple majors may require. once you enter into your upper div classes and more major-oriented classes, you’ll usually see this problem dissipate (except when it comes to popular professors).
anyways, good luck with your enrollment and i hope you get into the classes you are wanting to take!
