What do you think the most underrated and overrated universities are?
Feel free to list.

Most Overrated: Harvard

Most Underrated: Northwestern or Berkeley

Most overrated: Notre Dame

Most underrated: Tufts

And I really don't see how Berkeley would be underrated, and I'm from the east coast :D

Oh and thanks for the compliment on the overrated school ;)

Berkeley is underrated where i'm from (LA Area). USC and UCLA are way, WAY overrated over here.

I really don't see how berkeley is underrated in the LA area. Probably half my high school applied to berkeley.

I do think USC is underrated in some circles, with people who still see things as they were 20 years ago.

Underrated: Chicago and Northwestern

There have already been a number of these threads in the past. Is it worth doing this again?

Well anyway, in my biased opinion I would say Rice is very underrated as well as the University of Chicago.

Overrated schools include Harvard and especially Washington University in St. Louis.

Hey lets start a thread about aruging!
Overrated: Brown
Underrated: UT Austin

Overrated- Brown
underrated College of William and Mary

Overrated: Harvard
Underrated: Tufts

overrated-WUSTL. their med school is good, but nothing else
Underrated: Northwestern

Overrated: Harvard and Stanford, at least for undergrad. I have no doubt that these are two of the best universities in the entire world, but no school deserves the reputations that they have.

Underrated: Tufts, Northeastern, Texas A&M

I feel that Rice is overrated in Texas, but severely underrated outside of Texas.

Once again, I'll stand up for Michigan State University as an underrated school. This thread has reincarnated itself so many times...

Other than that, I think 90% of liberal arts colleges are underrated.

overrated: brown.
underrated: W&L

overrated: Caltech (Honestly, does anyone NOT interested in science or engineering attend this school)
underrated: None

overrated: wash u, duh
underrated: rice (i would have definitely gone here if not for dartmouth)

Overrated: WUSTL, Emory
Underrated: CalTech

Huh????

Overrated: All the schools you've heard of
Underrrated: All the school you haven't heard of

How can people be putting down top 20 and top 50 schools as "underrated?" It's senseless.

if a school is "rated" 15, and should be higher, its underrated

look it up in the dictionary, i'm right

how are you rating brown as underrated?

Isn't it ranked 13th or something on US News?

There should be facts to back up all claims - for example, saying Harvard and Stanford are underrated are fine, but facts point that students at these schools go to top grad schools at highest proportions and are the most competetive based on scores at entrance. However, I'm not sure how much of a role the school plays in harnessing their academic strength.

overated: michigan state...its ranked 77th best or whatever: its just a party school with athletics...if you want a good party, go to state

if you want a public ivy league education, go to u of m
