Most Popular Major

Is Princeton more scienceish like MIT or more like a LAC?
I know that the math department is highly ranked, but the history department is also highly ranked.

according to this link the most popular majors are English Language and Literature, History, Poli Sci and Gov’t.

So if I want to be an engineer, Princeton isn’t a match for me?

no no, the most popular major has nothing to do with their best departments…

Princeton is great in their math and science departments.

thought one of the popular majors would be Economics? last year there were more than 100 graduates out of a class of about 1200

By using the senior thesis database on the Mudd Library website, I’ve compiled a list showing the approximate distribution of undergraduates among all the concentrations for the Class of 2008. :)

Total no. of theses: 1119
Total no. of graduates in Class of 2008: 1125

Someone’s probably gonna come along and point me to an official published list buried somewhere in the Princeton website, but I had fun reading the thesis titles!

Go to this link.[University Enrollment Statistics « Office of the Registrar](University Enrollment Statistics | Office of the Registrar). Click on Degrees conferred and you’ll find stats on degrees from 98 to last year. Most popular last year was economics with 112.

There was a total of 1137 degrees conferred.

Is the Princeton Economics department the best out of all the universities? Why are some people going to Princeton just to study languages?

According to my sample of around 10 Princeton students (not a simple random one by any means, nor sizeable enough to make a statistical conclusion), the most popular major by far was economics.
