Most prestigious: UCLA or Emory?

That’s pretty neat, I guess the men’s basketball team is relaxing there now?

If you want an international perspective, i’ll give you one.
I’m from Pakistan, I’ve known about UCLA all my life and I only came to know that Emory even existed when I was looking at US news rankings.

A CC poster interested in PPE? How (not) unusual. :p

For once, I find myself wholly in agreement with Hope2getrice. Both UCLA and Emory have plenty of recognition and prestige. I know it can be difficult to break out of the high school prestige mindset (sadly, even some older posters here haven’t), but it really is more important to look at the overall picture. After all, you won’t be eating, sleeping, participating in, and listening to prestige for the next four years. It’s the other factors that will make the difference.

Yup! But no worries, the remainder of our athletes whose teams have contributed to our record-setting 103 NCAA Championships are hard at work :)

[url=http://www.ncaa.org/champadmin/champs_listing1.html]Schools with the Most NCAA Championships/url.

“Emory is not a ‘joke’. If anything, UCLA is the joke that accepts many under-qualified applicants with its gay admissions and blindly fills their school with overachieving asians. So much for ‘diversity’…”

The racist ignorance on some of these sites always amazes me. UCLA is actually very diverse and as far as I know the students are among the best anywhere. As far as prestige it is a wash as another poster said. Personally, I would choose based on cost and if that is equal I would pick UCLA as a preference. But YOUR choice should reflect YOUR experience, interests etc. If possible visit both and decide where you fit.

UCLA anyday, especially if you’re in state.

I have a child at Emory and one at an Ivy. I am a huge Emory fan and the education my child is receiving there is amazing. Amazing. There is merit money; she has access to some of the best in her field; her friends are great; opportunities abound, and I have enjoyed exploring Atlanta. The connections Emory has with the CDC, Carter Center, etc. provide unique opportunities. The campus feels intimate but is big enough that you can always meet new people. Neither of my kids were interested in UCLA so can’t comment on that but Emory is very highly regarded on the East coast. That said, I agree with posters who say it is all about fit.
