Most Prestigious

Which college is most prestigious?

UCLA, UVa, University of Chicago, Carnegie Mellon, and University of Michigan?

If you could rank them, that would be great.
Also just to let you know, I am not letting prestige affect my college choice but I'm just curious of the five schools, how each ranks in prestige? Thanks a lot.

i would say UChicago and especially if you want to learn anything business related.

I would go with the U.S News rankings

US News does not exactly rank in order of prestige.

University of Chicago and UCLA are probably the most prestigious.

UCLA, Chicago, Carnegie, Michigan, and UVA - just my opinion

chicago by far outprestiges any of those schools.

Chicago, Carnegie, UCLA, UVA, Umich

For undergrad:

Chicago
Michigan/Uva/UCLA
CMU

But I think the difference is quite small that is almost insignificant.

Chicago for me.

Globally,

Chicago pawns.

Followed by Michigan then Carnegie Mellon.

([QS Top Universities: Top 100 universities in the THE - QS World University Rankings 2007](http://www.topuniversities.com/worlduniversityrankings/results/2008/overall_rankings/))

US News is by far the most inaccurate and biased rankings source in the history of rankings.

Chicago is in a different class from any of the other schools on your list.

chicago ~

then IMO
UCLA > CMU > U mich
in terms of prestige, but i would attend CMU over both ucla and umich…

University of Chicago
University of Virginia
Carnegie Mellon
UCLA
U Mich

U Of Chicago, keep in mind they’re all good schools.

I’m curious as to where each of you are located and whether that influenced your opinion. By that I mean East coast, central US, or West coast.

Chicago, then Carnegie Mellon

East coast

UChicago I would say is the most prestigious.

I would say U of Chicago by far. I’m located in central us.

I’m so confused by these replies…How do you guys define prestige?

My definition of prestige is widely known reputation resulting from excellence in academics, achievement, etc.

I understand that U Chicago is ranked much higher than the other schools but practically no one in the US (by that I mean common people) has heard of U Chicago. UCLA, on the other hand, is widely known for either their academic excellence, contribution to the nation/world, sports, etc. Basically I see UCLA as a household name on par with Harvard, Princeton, and Yale. But I can understand that the business and academic world would most likely view U Chicago as more prestigious. Just my thoughts.

By the way I live on the East Coast
