What are the most important factors for determining whether a college is a good fit?
In my opinion:

1 Does it offer your major?

2 Are your SATs a good match for the college? If your SAT are about the 25th percentile, then the college is a reach. If your SATs are about the 75th percentile, then the college is a safety.

Any special requests for rankings by SAT score? For particular subsets of colleges?

Anybody have any requests? Other ways to look at colleges based on SATs?

Is there a way to compare instate vs oos for the big popular state universities like Chapel Hill, U Mich, or the U of CA schools?

interestinnn

That is a great question but the information is not reported to the US Dept of Education so I don't have access to it. Try calling the admissions offices or emailing them. They might have an answer for you.

There are a couple of new threads about best colleges by state so I thought I’d bring up this thread again which lists the most selective schools in each state by SAT.

When will new numbers come out? Also are these numbers accepted students or enrolled students? (or does that really not change?)

These numbers don’t change much from year to year. They are for enrolled students. They come from the US Department of Education, IPEDS, NCES and there is a one year delay. New numbers are probably available by now, since this is an old thread, but I do not plan to update these lists. They will be pretty accurate for many years to come.

regarding #107, if you have occasion to do this again, I suggest posting data that’s actually pertinent to admissions to the technical colleges at these institutions, not data for the universities as a whole. The differences may be material, therefore posting off-point aggregates can cause drawing of misleading conclusions. For instance Cornell’s engineering college range was actually 1360-1520 at that time. I can only presume that there are other instances with similar, or perhaps greater, levels of discrepancy.

I would imagine that the lower the % engineers is, the more potential error there is in using the univesity aggregates.

Better not to post stuff than to post stuff that is knowingly wrong and misleading to the exercise at hand. IMO.

Could you list best schools by CR score? Is that possible? Maybe LSATs and Law schools?

Thank you, by the way, what you’ve done already is great.

monydad-
Fair enough. It is a bit misleading (post #107). The only engineering school for which I had SATs was Cornell’s. Other Engineering Schools don’t seem to post the SATs specifically for engineering. It would be useful if they did.
