so everyone knows where their going now… but some people… ummm… err… got in where you didn’t think they would.
there’s a girl from my school who FAILED the 11th grade, didn’t even appear for her 12th grade examinations…and got accepted to UPenn…
she had NO extracurriculars to speak off
but to her credit she did have a 1530 SAT and 790,760,770 SAT 2’s.
(ofcourse, it also helped that her father is one of the richest men in the country…)
did anyone you know get in where u didnt think they would? and if they did why do you think they got in?
is there any justice in this world?
(im going to Duke, didnt even apply to Penn, so it’s not sour grapes)

I have seen many of friends went to some school where they cannot go in...
like....
2 people went UCSD with
3.8 (weighted) gpa with 1000's sat
and one of them had 600 on math, 390 on writing..

1 person went to ucb with
4.0 (weighted gpa) with 1000~ sat

and i have a friend
who had 4.3 gpa with 1250-1300 sat score (not sure about exact score)
550? on writing...800 on language, math 2c and 760 on physics
going to UCSB after the rejection from uci,ucb,ucla,ucsd...

They needed to fill their female ice hockey team and her talent in this particular sport really made her stand out among other female applicants. Girls who want to play more popular sports like tennis have a lot more athetes to compete with. It's the less popular sports (in this case, WOMEN'S ice hockey) that sometimes get you in.

a fd of mine got into macalester with a 1200 SAT with an almost full scholarship, no impressive ECs or leadership position, and all these simply becoz she goes to an united world college in norway.

I have a friend who got into johns hopkins with a 3.4 gpa and a 1200 sat. His ec's were lawnmowing for money, and one year of varsity soccer..... I feel bad for my other friends who were rejected and seem far more deserving....

Guys, I know it's tough, but welcome to the real world. When you get out into the job market some years from now, you'll sit in a room full of people and think, "Boy, i'm eminently more qualified than any of them..." and not get the job. I've had interviews I've thought I tanked, and I get an offer. One of my interviews with an untold intelligence agency was GREAT. I didn't get the job.

That's the way things go. In the end, you aren't competing against those people, you're competing against yourself.

i have a friend with a 1000 sat and 3.8 gpa. but she makes up for that by her 4 years of class secretary, vp of this and that, and loads of others.

A friend of mine got into Berkeley with a 3.3 and a 1260. His ECs were okay at best. There's really nothing special that distinguishes him, so we're still all confused as to how he got in.

diu9lei, what is your problem? you go on random threads either lying or saying meaningless stuff. It's not even funny, either; if it was, then maybe it would be cool, but no...just stop.
