most ~SHOCKING~ acceptances?

diu9lei-- wow, really impressive that you've been accepted to all of those places considering that you cannot spell C-O-L-U-M-B-I-A!!!!!!

I completed my application for a state school (in my state) in the second week of april and just got accepted. Not amazing because of the school, but i completed my application at least two months late. I think i might go there, just so i can tell other students there that story. Oh, and its also cheap.

HAHAHAHA on the post above my last one. Holy **** thats funny.

I have a friend that got into UCB with a 3.8 GPA. No EC's at all during high school and a 1000 on her SAT!

so why do you think these people got in?

"contacts"?
famous/rich parents?

luck?

i dont think the acceptances of mediocre students who happen to be African Americans, or Native Americans, or those whose parents have made huge donations to the university, are shocking at all...

whether or not i believe it's fair is another matter altogether, but we should all know by now that those kinds of things can factor greatly into a college's decision.

alot of people are very ambitious, want to attend the school they apply too, and write great essays that show a great personality. no Test can measure that stuff.

^yeah thats true

Somebody I know got into Stanford Columbia Cornell Upenn and loads of other places with full rides with a SAT score in the late 1300s and a horrible class rank and GPA

However his essays are really amazing and completley justify his acceptances to so many great universities

sprkl325 .. excuse me, i am insulted on behalf of the person u're writing about.

i got into ucb - int'l with to low 600s on sat2. considering they factor in the sat2 at double the sat1, im surprised and happy.

MR. akashbansal"

I entirely disagree with you. He would have let someone else write his essay, in the first place. And even if he didn't, his essay could have been usual and has nothing but prosaic. Essay doesn't count a thing. Why? College admission is a mystery! Looking at all the lesser talents get in great colleges, and you sit in the class being the only one who's going to state, and now they look down on you! Thinking you are just not on their level when one year ago I was the only kid who was expected to get in Harvard. sickness unto death

i don't mean for you to disagree. of ocurse i am exaggerating!

I know somebody who got a 2.8 gpa, no extracurriculars to UC Davis with a bioengineering major.

Most shocking acceptance?

I got a job.

friend, from uzbekstan, got in Stanford, with a 1200 SAT, 480 SAT2 writing...........1 EC, great essay........

also why should the essay count sooo much? it could be written by someone else or revised by 100+ english teachers

ThomYorke, did that guy apply for Engineering or Computer Science? Did he have an IMO medal or stuff like that?
I disagree with the essay not being important. I got in only at the schools where I really had my best essays. About editing, sure you can have lots of "specialists" revising your essay, but quantity does NOT equal quality in this process. Your essay will end up so perfect that it is lifeless and soulless.

I agree. I didn't know until this year that people actually bought essays from people or paid big $$ for mega proofreadings. So ridiculous. It completely disregards the original purpose of the essay. :/

all-american soccer player from rhode island...890 SAT...FULL RIDE to UVA!
