most ~SHOCKING~ acceptances?

My most shocking acceptance? I'd have to say Williams.

The kid with the 980 at Brown is the subject of the book "A Hope in the Unseen". He came from a horrendous school in DC, but was unbelievably motivated, and after a rocky start (mostly from culture shock) he did fine.

mcjaammin, is there anyway I could read your essay? If you don't mind, my e-mail address is genuine9@hotmail.com. If you do mind, I completely understand! I'm just interested in what a good essay is.

my most shocking acceptances:
Harvard,Yale,Princeton and MIT.

Didn't expectto get into any of them.... was completely shocked when i got into MIT... then came Harvard,Yale and 2 days later, Princeton. = o

Asian Male
3.86 uw gpa
1480 SATI

and where are you going finally???

garland: that book was amazing, obviously it would be shocking to anybody, "980 got into brown?", but after reading that book, you can understand that cedric really earned his place

2.9 gpa, 1140 SAT in at Carleton, ED

i don't think athletes getting in with low grades is too 'shocking'

their good at what they do, and thats why their in.

I know somebody from our school went to Duke with 2.0 something gpa and less than 1000 sat =P

he is a basketball player

^ That's a lie. A kid from my school lost out on a scholarship to Duke because his GPA was too low (2.9) and his SATs were like an 1180.

He never said he got a scholarship

This kid from my sch got into Harvard with a 3.0 GPA, 1200+ SAT, Grade8 piano (being her only EC), but mom was a Harvard Baker scholar. Chinese female.

And another who got into Yale with a 2.0 GPA, 1200+ SAT, no ECs that I know of, but dad's in the gov't. white american male.

I was just wondering. . is legacy a very impt factor? (for those with not-so-elite grades who want to get into ivies)

of course it is. It just depends on the level of the legacy.

On the legacy factor, I overheard two doctors talking (at Yale hosp) about one of their daughters hearing from Harvard. He said, "Not yet, we're pensive" and other doc sputtered, Why?, you're.....I mean you're a giving alumi, right? He said, It's not a shoo-in anymore to which his friend said with a smile, Yes it is, maybe some prep kids get rejected, but not the "important" alum. (she did get in)
Another Yale professor told me that her son could of went to one of four colleges (all where she and husband went to college/grad school) but he picked Yale. Maybe it isn't as easy as it sounds, but she made it seem like he was narrowing down on his tours, not really choosing and waiting.

that makes me so envious

i had a face to face talk with my prothodontist. he graduated from usc and boston. we talked about legacy and he said "my children are going to get in to usc and they will get in to boston, so work hard since will not have legacy" lol.

i know someone who got rejected from Rutgers. he was a NJ state resident and his mom went there.
that was pretty shocking

my 3 best essays got me rejections, my worst, most sloppy written one got me into brown.

and i also shouldnt have been accepted anywhere near brown since i am the laziest man alive; i havent studied since my sophomore year and instead of a backpack, i carry a pencil to school.

"And another who got into Yale with a 2.0 GPA, 1200+ SAT, no ECs that I know of, but dad's in the gov't. white american male."

30 years pass.... and nothing in this world changes.

i know somebody who got into standford with a 2.5 and a 1100 sat score.
