most significant extracurric activity

does anyone know if it's ok to write about two activities, i'm having a hard time choosing between my writing for the local paper (8,850 circulation) and attending a summer class at columbia which had a good deal of influence on me and shows a strong interest in my intended major (economics.) any advice is appreciated, thanks.

Write about the newspaper. Mention the economics course in your personal statement.

Yea, do what 1789 said. Newspaper is more important.

do they care about this as much as the essays you think?

i'm guessing that it's not as important as the essay, but serves as a chance to add in something that wasn't in your essay

Exactly. Originally in my essay I talked about basketball and how my diverse school has affected me. My teacher told me to pick one, so I wrote about bball in that section.

I think they are trying to find out what you would contribute to the university community outside of the classroom. The Georgetown experience is about a lot more than what one learns in the classroom. They want to know what you would do to enhance the Georgetown experience for all of the oter members of the community be it as a columnist in one of the papers, an actor, an artist, an athlete, a club leader, a teaching assistant, a student government officer, a radio dj, a band member, a tour guide, etc.

I have a question about this: is 234 words too much for this section??

Mine was 409 lol.

Also, try not to name drop. For example, if you wrote about a summer program at Columbia, it might seem to them that you were only writing about it BECAUSE it was at Columbia. That probably isn't true, but I would still go with the newspaper.

Remember that you need to stay true to yourself- write about what you love most, not what you think will impress the most. This might sound like a crazy idea, but if you write about what you love, that will show on paper and be a much better essay on something that you did not love as much but was more impressive. I, for example, wrote the influence of Ginastera's Danzas Argentinas on my piano playing at Furman U. It's no Julliard Piano Camp, if there is such a thing, but my personality shone through and was much better than anything that could have seemed like-name dropping.

^thanks Akajjred for replying. Ok I was a bit worried since it seemed as though they wanted it short to fit in that tiny space, I feel relieved now. I took out a few sentences thinking it was too long; double spaced it is almost a whole page and I figured since the essays were only supposed to be "brief" and only a page long, I was like whoa....this is like essay length already.
