I mean not like military vs. progressive but like regular, college prep. HADES and others :) thanks

over 100 views and nothing??

choate was kind of structured…

From what I’ve heard Exeter seems pretty structured…

Yeah I think Exeter is quite structured

What do you guys think about structure? better with more or less?

in between, i like structure but not too much

I think there was a thread very similar to this one a while back ago, like 1 month or something? I’m searching for it…
From what I’ve heard, Groton is structured.

what about hotchkiss?

I would like it to be in between-ly structured

hotchkiss didn’t seem as structured to me.
and yeah i would like for it to be in between as well.

Groton. mandatory Latin and supervised evening study.

What about least structured?

@FayMom - and proctored study hall during free periods for 2nd and 3rd formers too.

This is not meant to be negative, but more of a reality check. Yes, Groton is very structured in the first few years, but for fifth and sixth formers (juniors and seniors) there is practically no structure. Kids party and do (and get away with) many of the things you would not expect in a “structured” school or any school.

Groton’s rational is that if you have not figured out by fifth form that is is your most important year and you need to work hard to get into a good college, then it’s your fault. By sixth form, the school facilitates the college application process, but that’s about the only “structure”.

My husband and really liked the balance at Deerfield that we felt my son needed. The support is there if you need it and given their experience with boys (who, let’s face it, are not as mature as girls in the same grade), they know how to prod them in the right direction.

I think sps is least structured with no lights out…just the most obvious factor to me :)

Middlesex also has no lights out expect for freshman

preppy4peddie, please let me know why you think that Hotchkiss is not structured. My son is a first year lower mid there, and he seems to chafe sometimes under the school’s policies on study hall, lights out, Saturday classes, dress codes, limits on internet usage, etc. (Of course, I, as the parent, want more, not less structure, at my son’s BS.)

Although SPS does not have a mandatory lights out policy, in my d’s dorm, they monitor how late the girls are staying up and if you consistently try to stay up to late they will require you to go to bed at a certain time. The same applies for study hours. You either do it yourself or they will require you to have monitored study hours.

emdee- what form is your daughter in? Does this apply for every form?
