Most teachable SAT section?

What do you guys think is the most teachable section on the SAT? In other words, if you took the test cold turkey, and then studied each section for the same amount of time, in which section would you see the greatest improvement? I have very limited experience but I would guess critical reading because it seems that you have to learn what the College Board is looking for in the answer.

I’d say the writing, for sure. Once you know the little tricks, you’re gold. If you’re a natural writer, you’re platinum. Even decent writers can develop a quick organization template. For elaboration examples within the essay, you can study some Sparknotes for a few weeks) if you never got around to reading the books) ;)

I’d say math if you’re a science kind of person (the math tested on the SAT is very limited in scope). But I do agree (to an extent) with the above poster as well.

I’ve been doing prep since '04. I’d say writing. SAT tests certain types of grammatical errors-- it becomes much easier to recognize them with practice. Also, if you understand how the essay is scored, you can make sure you include those elements that will gain points.

Math–I think it depends where you start. Those with lower scores can improve a lot with practice and knowing the “tricks” of the test. It is harder for someone who starts with a very good score to advance to a perfect score. Even those with perfect math scores on some practice tests will make a few mistakes at times. And some folks just don’t have “math brains” and can’t improve much in this section at all.

Reading is the hardest to improve, IMO. Some questions are so random/hard to interpret and some seem to have no clear correct/best answer. Some passages are easy to read, others are difficult/boring/technical etc. You just don’t know what you’ll get, and students’ scores might swing back and forth even with practice.
