Most underrated Universities

I know you guys will look at me like I’m crazy but here goes…

In the case of the Ivies, Brown and Cornell aren’t as liked as HYP.

This. Thank God someone mentioned UCSB…

^ Cooper Union is nationally recognized, but it’s really a local school.

ummm… I go to Allegheny, and I had applied to each of these schools. NOBODY is paying $40,000 to go to these schools. I received $20,000 in financial aid from Allegheny for academics alone, not even counting federal aid. Many people received $10,000-$20,000 in aid. I am paying thousands less than my friends at Pitt or Penn State, where the tuition is $21,000 to $25,000, but the schools only give $500 aid. I received similar financial aid packages from Gannon, Mercyhurst, and Westminster.

People in academia do (and employers should) know of Cooper Union and Olin, but outside of that, they’re both more or less unknown. I hadn’t heard of either until I started coming on here.

UoA-- Tucson sucks.

Yeah, I mean I’ve heard of Cooper Union and Olin and I know they’re great schools, but I only knew that through seeing them name-dropped on here.

But yes, the kind of employers that students from both schools would apply to more than likely have heard of them.

In Oklahoma, it is definitely University of Tulsa. Tulsa is a good school, but in my area I never hear anybody talk about it because they’re all going to Oklahoma or OK State or one of the smaller schools. The only time I hear anyone talk about it is when they mention that 2 kids from my school play football there.

And I will agree with you on Cooper Union.

UT Austin is way underrated in the Northwest and Northeast.

Another one I just thought of.
Oklahoma City University. It’s actually a really academic-oriented school, and it has excellent performing arts, but people barely even know about it in my area. I think I know 2 people that are considering that school.

Clemson is definitely underrated in the Northeast and outside of the Southeast. Northeastern is underrated outside of the Northeast.

@xcell

lmao so your saying african americans along with hispanics and internationals are dumb? UH will be the next tier 1 in Texas, mark my words…

UTs baseball team lost to UH…Lol

and 13% AA’s isnt a lot at all. UT needs to get more diverse, almost no diversity at all. same with SMU, only about 4-5% AA’s

UT austin is not underrated but if you want to work in the north/ dont go to UT…that would just be stupid

^ UH will never be tier 1. Sorry. It’s just the truth. And baseball has nothing to do with academics…

I feel like if you’re going to say X school is underrated/overrated, you should provide some context for your assessment.

For instance, I live in D/FW and UT is not underrated here, but in Nashville, where I go to school, UT is underrated.

Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. I read all over these threads people who say they aren’t as good as what’s generally accepted, and that is 100% false.

Nice one Buddy. Completely impartial judge of school quality.

I always regarded Cooper Union as being a good institution. Not to mention the free tuition

University of Rochester! It’s in NY and is prestigious yet some people don’t even know its a private institution with amazing research.

well i mean if you want to live in Tennessee, UT is better(bright orange)

UH will be tier one in the next few years…

all tier 1 means is that the school is a research institution, which has nothing to do with majority of the students that attend the schools.

the only reason UT has 70% of the top 10 kids applying, is because they have a very well known Football Team… not because of the academics…

this may sound stupid, but if a school has a good sports program/ the school is elevated to another status…

without good sports programs UT would lose a lot of popularity…

back to what i was saying though, UH will be tier 1/ just watch and see

^pierrechn, your point that people go to UT not because of the academics is stupid. Why don’t more top 10% students go to Oklahoma then? Because Oklahoma isn’t as good for academics as Texas.
