I'm currently a Junior and my first semester is about to end, final grades are coming out soon and these were my grades for first semester:
B's in my AP and Honors courses
C in my other AP class ( Yeah I know..)
A's in the rest.
Will these grades immediately give me no chance? I have not decided on a college but I'm looking at UCLA or UC Berkley. I also got mostly A's sophmore year and 1 C unfortunately.
I know there are many factors but I'm really worried about it so any advice would be appreciated.

There are people applying with mostly As and getting rejected.

What’s your culm GPA? But unless you’re turning in a super SAT, you face a serious uphill climb with UCLA and UCB. Your Junior and Senior years are the most predictive of your ability to handle rigorous collegiate work at the more selective colleges.

Advice? Cut out some distractions and get tutoring. Good luck to you.

one C and a few Bs will seriously jeopardize your chances of getting into any top tier school (i.e. UC Berkeley) i would say your grades are not up to par with UCBerkely admission standard. With that said, if you can improve your grades going forward and turn in superior SAT (2300+, 700+), along with 5s in AP tests. You are still in contention. Don’t give up. Perhaps you should take a less rigorous work load. I’d take an A in a regular class over a C in AP/Honors.

How exactly do you calculate culm GPA? I’m taking the SAT again this saturday and I get around 2100. Yeah I have a really difficult teacher unfortunately in AP Lang but I’ll definitely be able to bring it up to a B at the least next semester. Thanks!
Thanks myboby123 I just had some bad luck with a few essays in that class. I can definitely change my grades and hopefully some A’s.

Take all your classes. Give them points as follows:

A 4.0
A- 3.7
B+ 3.3
B 3.0
B- 2.7
C+ 2.3
C 2.0
C- 1.7
D+ 1.3
D 1.0
D- .7
F 0

Then add up all the points and divide by the number of classes taken.

Continue to work had and apply to safety schools. Colleges are looking for a rigorous course load and it looks like you have it so…no worries.
