What a cute thread! I am a year early and we are in the middle of college choice freak out. Nice to read that there is some fun at the end of the process.

Haven’t started to look yet with my D, she told me she had a lot more things on her mind than “extra long twin sheets and a comforter”, like finishing high school! She will be inheriting stuff from her two older sisters who have graduated like refrigerators (2 to pick from) rugs, shower totes & so on. I believe her dorm room comes with blinds, so curtains are not an issue. I am looking forward to shopping with her & I have been saving the Bed Bath & Beyond 20% off coupons to use.

Once D1 picked out her comforter, I bought a plain cork board and painted the four sides. I’m not much of an artist, but I tried to get each family member to paint something small. I felt like I was sending our family to college with her!

We spent the summer shopping and going out to lunch. We rented the full Sex in the City and watched it together - brought up the opportunity for some very adult conversation! When I dropped her off at college, I felt like we had made the best of the time we had together.

D2 is now in the college application process - she’ll be a senior next year. I’m looking forward to the “getting ready” process with her. One thing I did that D1 seems to appreciate is when she comes home, I put flowers in her room. I like her to feel like we are celebrating her return! It makes me feel better too! I still miss her but because she loves college so much, it’s easier to accept.

Have fun. Laugh a lot and enjoy every moment. They come home a new person after having developed deep relationships with people you may never meet.
