Motivation. How?

My motivation was pretty great at the beginning of the school year (like every year) and gets quickly depleted by the first month. This happens every single year, all the time.

So I have to ask, what motivates YOU to study? Are there any skills or methods you use to keep yourself studying?

Please don’t say “So you can go to a good college” or “so you can get a good job.” If that worked, I wouldn’t be posting this forum.

Also, what’s a good method to replenish my motivation?

I look at colleges and, since I want to become a doctor, medical schools and residencies and all of the intresting classes and programs they have. Seems to do the trick for me as it suddenly makes all the thing I’ve dreamed of doing tangible.

I have been and still am having troubles with staying motivated. Looking at others and comparing myself or looking at “dream” colleges kind of kills my mood.
I want to be interested in programming and math and physics, but I haven’t found the motivation to open the books…

I’ve been focusing on other aspects of my life that might be hurting my motivation, such as socializing more or practicing an instrument.

I think about how it would feel to fail. That usually does the trick.
In addition, I don’t know if you’re on tumblr or have heard of it, but there is an entire community of people that post about and glorify studying, which can be motivational.

Here’s what I do.
I have some hard-to-reach goals that I want to pursue, and some challenging classes.
I list down everything I want to do during the week.
Then I write a rough schedule based on these goals and how much time I’ll allocate to each study. I also make sure to put in some time for breaks.
To follow this schedule, I always think to myself “oh the hell i’ll go through tommorow if I don’t finish this today.”
At first, it’s pretty painful, but after a while, it won’t be so hard to motivate yourself.

What @thetex said is very true. There have been many long nights where I just kept pushing through because I knew what the consequences would be the next day if I didn’t.

@whitespace I am not well versed in Tumblr navigation so could you give me some links to those blogs? That sounds pretty entertaining.

add dj khaled on snapchat, thats all the motivation you need

you could try taking it one step at a time…that’s what I do. Or writing stuff that you need to get done on a planner. Maybe looking at your grades? Or putting down your phone? You could also go to coffee shops such as Caribou or any other coffee shops in your area and sit there with your backpack and a cup of coffee/hot chocolate. I get motivated or at least feel like I have to get my stuff done when I see other people working. If you’re forced to stay at home etc. or have to on certain days then what do you usually do? Tv, social media, or read? If you like to watch tv then during the ads you could work on your homework etc. or study…if you’re on netflix then pause your show during the best parts/climax and start working on your homework. If you’re always on social media sites then be like I’ll go on it for ten minutes then do my homework for ten minutes then go back on it. If you enjoy reading during your free time then do your homework by chapters (although if you’re doing your homework after each chapter in the book then you would need to do bigger chunks from your homework).

@Studious99 I follow study-well and studyspiration. You can find a lot of other blogs by following the tag “studyblr” on Tumblr.
