motorcycle?

So I decided to go to UCSC, and am going to leave my car with my parents till sophomore year(I will probably have junior standing by then). Is it in any way possible to be able to bring a motorcycle freshman year?

I’m pretty sure freshman can’t park any motor vehicles on campus. You’d have to find parking off campus, Craigslist and whatnot.

But just call em up and ask.

when I went to visit, there was a parking garage across from the engineering building where I was told to park as a visitor, I didn’t need to buy a pass and I didn’t get a ticket can’t I park there?

It depends on when you visited. Rules are different on the weekends, for instance. Chances are where you parked is normally reserved for permit-holders, or a designated “visitor” space.

That parking garage is only for A (faculty, staff, and temporary guest permits) and B (graduate students) parking permits. As a student, you will not be able to buy anything but an R permit for a car on a normal basis. Also note that unless you have the junior standing pretty early (I’d say by the end of you freshman year), you risk permits being sold out. There are a limited number of C permits (zone 1 and 2) available to undergrad juniors and seniors and these usually sell out fast. R permits sold out so much that they ceased sales of even daily permits to any junior or senior living on campus.

However, all students (even frosh and sophomores) can buy an MC (motorcycle) permit. Why you’d park in the parking garage is beyond me since there’s usually up close parking for MC permits in most of the colleges.

Many parking areas on campus are free on weekends, some are free on weekdays after 8:30pm, some after 5pm, and some are enforced 24/7 including holidays. Always read the posted information for each lot or you’re liable to get a very nasty ticket.

Ok so you are saying I CAN bring a motorcycle with me the beginning of the school year? If so that will make my life so much easier

The website says you can. They might limit MC permits, though, if they’ve sold too many. Just make sure you have the proper registration and are legally allowed to operate it. They also might change rules for next year (though I doubt it). I would be 100% sure you can have it with you before you bring it.
