Motorcycle

Anyone drive a motorcycle or gonna drive one at Cal? How's parking? Do you need to get a permit? Can you leave it there overnight and for like long periods of time?

I don't know about taking a motorcycle up there. But I know I'll be taking my Nissan 350Z up with me.

Wow. I have a 350z too! But people tell me not to bring her there because she will be scratched up and violated from vandalism. I heard that parking is a major ***** there too with cars.

Really!... No way, that is awesome! My 350Z is silver and has the G35 rims. yea, i m pretty scared about my car being messed up in berkeley too, especially after my old C230 got wrecked by some dumb girl...
yea... so i might just leave the 350Z at home and take my parents old green Mercedez wagon instead...!!!
hey chaofun! we should meet up sometime and compare our cars!!!

or an even better idea would be to just get over the fact that you wont be driving for at least a year seeing as you dont need to... If you honestly think thats a good plan then maybe you havent been up here enough. It'll be an expensive pain in the *** and its mostly useless.

Wow, cats on the college boards talking about comparing cars.

Who are you? You know me, right? Are you messing with me? I have used to have a c230 coupe which got crashed by a girl, and my parents have an old green benz station wagon.

Does anybody know the answer to my first questionn, about motorcycles, not cars?

theres plenty of places to park if you want to feed a meter all day, you could prolly get a permit if you wanted, but its still not a great idea. I can understand a car maybe if you live maybe in SoCal and need something to trek stuff up and back when you go home, but a motorcycle clearly doesnt fit that purpose. Most of the traveling youll do to get to class will be by foot, and a motorcycle can only go the places that a car can, and you prolly wouldnt use a car much as far as getting around the city itself. i would say leave all vehicles at home. ive talked to quite a few people who didnt go home till thanksgiving, and when asked about having a car their response was "what for?" you might be a little rusty when you go back to driving stick for the first time in a few months (i hope your 350 is stick...) but that would be your only problem.

Why is getting a permit a bad idea for a motorcycle?

because in the end its a several thousand dollar liability sitting in a semi-public to public area. yes people have them, but for someone living on campus it is completely useless. if youre commuting then it might be a good idea, tho id sooner park it at bart and ride bart in than park it in berkeley, depending when you park, you dont need a permit to park at bart, and its easy enough to find a space. bottom line: no car, if youre commuting take bart, if youre living on campus dont bring it.

I already know not to bring a car. I am going to want to commute for work. Can someone who rides a motorcycle tell me some more?

Your motorcycle will get stolen. If you are really going to bring one, make it dirty/ get an old one.

you're probabily gonna get it jacked....if you want to bring one up, make sure it blends into the building and then no one will jack it =P
