Motorcycles

I was wondering how much motorcycle parking there is around UCLA. The website says parking for motorcycles is free, which is getting me pretty excited, but I don't know if I should bring my Ducati. What do you guys think?

I had my bike for a year, and it was great. And yes, bike parking is free and plentiful.

What kind of Ducati?

Black Ducati Monster 620 Dark (kept stock). I added front fairings on it.. it helps so much (no tired shoulders) =)

i want a motocycle! haha. i have a pocket bike haha.

lexan,

Man, tired shoulders... I had a Kawasaki Ninja (600 cc), and that was a freakin' shoulder killer.

Hey, does anyone have the link that says motorcycle parkin is free?

http://www.transportation.ucla.edu/students/commuting/motorcycles/index.htm

Also, I was wondering if anyone knew where these motorcycle parking areas were. They don't specify it on the website, and I wanna check if there is parking for us near the dorms. Let me know!

hey thanks!
When I saw ur username, Lexus just came across my mind instead

lexan,

There is bike parking in Lot 11, which is right across from Hedrick. I'm also pretty sure that there's bike parking in the Dykstra Lot.

-Sproul underground parking
-Lot 13 (near Saxon suites)
-Lot 11

Probably some other places too that I don't know about.

On campus (again, that I know of)
-motorcycle lot east of Franz Hall
-motorcycle lot east of the Law school (near parking kiosk 3)
-Ackerman turnaround
-Structure 6 level 2 (street level)
-Structure 8 level 2

Btw lexan, sweet bike - there a guy that has one and parks next to my bike underneath Sproul.

Haha, thanks, guys. Do they have bike tippers up there? That's the only thing I'm afraid of.. thieves and immature kids!

Y'know, I never really saw any bike tipping on campus. My buddy did have his bike bumped by a driver, but it seems extremely rare.

Yeah i've never had anything happen to mine (not like thats a big surprise - its an old bike haha), nor have I seen anyone else's bike tipped or vandalized.

this has gotten me thinking of getting a motorcycle, free parking!!!

Get a motorcycle if you're lean, strong, and you have the guts. Riding is amazing, and you feel free, but you need to watch for your neighboring cars - it could and will get lethal. But other than that, it's an ego booster and definitely saves you a lot of money. I'd say go for it, but your guardians would kill me.

haha well I think that "will get lethal" is a big overstatement (and you certainly don't need to be "lean and strong"). Riding a motorcycle is not a death wish. In fact, if you take the MSF course, ride defensively, wear all your gear, and practice emergency maneuvers, its a very safe mode of transportation. Its also a hell of a lot of fun - in fact, I'm gonna go for a ride right now :)

Oh did I mention that lane-splitting is legal in CA?

ya the only drawback i would see is safety -- my classmate's brother just died in a motorcycle accident recently and i see too many gory motorcycle deaths on the internet. but i guess it's actually pretty safe?

j0b0sapi3n,

I could show you some really gory pictures of people dying in car accidents. Gonna stop driving? ;)
