Mount Holyoke Class of 2020 RD

D accepted her spot at Smith, so good news for someone on the MHC wait list! I loved MHC when we visited so it’s sad for me to see that dream go  but I know she will thrive at Smith and some other deserving young woman will find her home at MHC.

@vavoom congratulations and best wishes to your daughter!

@bgal101 @hellokitty679 @HPHstudent220 @vellichor @artsycyborg @mountaingoats @Phoria @AddyB123 @KCWD15 @Tookme10mins @cuuconbeo @Daaxin @Elevey1 @AnimalLover0209 @Ohwhatalife @Mech423 @fencingchick Congratulations on being accepted! I’m just curious if any of your Mount Holyoke acceptance letters contained personalized handwritten notes on them? I am just trying to figure out if that is standard procedure at Mount Holyoke. Thank you and Congratulations!

Hi @scarletballerina yes I did receive a handwritten note on my acceptance letter regarding my personal statement. Later when I talked to the admissions counselor in person she told me that Holyoke tries to do this on every application to be more personal

@scarletballerina D did as well. It was a nice touch.

@scarletballerina Didn’t get anything handwritten which is odd because I did get one of those leadership awards so I’d figure they’d want to be personal with my app.

@phoria D would be happy to trade the note for that award!

@PNWedwonk You can appeal for an award! I didn’t but I have a friend from years past who did! She got $10k. It helps if your D has gotten scholarships elsewhere.

I got a note! It was a very nice touch

I got a special card inside with a long note! Makes sense since I got the trustees scholarship.

Congratulations! The trustee scholarships are relatively new at Mount Holyoke so it is quite an honor to have been offered that award. Don’t miss the admitted students program where you will meet your prospective classmates. You also will receive a warm welcome at some point not only from your sister class of 2018 but also your grandmother class of 1970. We of the “grandmother” variety are a lot of fun and some of us are “born again hippies” who love our college. But, again, congratulations to you and to all of the students newly admitted to the Class of 2020. By the way, your class color is blue.

Yeah, I got a handwritten note too. MoHo and another school I applied to did the handwritten thing which I like, gives it a nice touch.

My daughter’s personal note referenced activities she had done in high school on her application. Unfortunately, they were not activities she had participated in.

to any of you who were accepted this year, i will be applying to MHC next year and will need more than 10 thousand i in merit aid
currently i have a 32C ACT
UW gpa: 3.86, W gpa: 4.6
i am also in an IB program so will be graduating with an IB diploma
is there any way that merit aid might happen?

My D got that much with worse scores (did test optional so didn’t submit ACT). Also an IB diploma. But she had pretty interesting extra curriculars, so maybe not comparable?

I do a few ec but they take up a huge amount of time, like i was in multiple for forensics and will be directing it next year. do they consider the time taken with them, or just the amount?

I don’t know for sure, but I would think so. D’s ECs were almost all related to drama, but ranged across the whole field including leadership. See if you can fit your interests into your essay to show why you spend so much time on them.

absolutely imo! good luck

Good luck to all of the class of 2020 moving in this week! Hope everything goes well for you guys - if you need to slip away and relax, there’s a great 1-mile trail that starts just past Kendall (the gym) and goes around upper lake. It’s gorgeous this time of year!
