Congrats to all who were accepted! My D is a first year at Mount Holyoke and she LOVES it! She couldn’t make it to Accepted Students weekend last year but she visited during her spring break and it was her overnight visit and class observations that solidified her choice (she was deciding between MHC, Smith, Scripps and Barnard). She said it felt like “anyone could find ‘their people’ at Mount Holyoke” and she loves how all of her friends are so passionate about what they love (politics, music, science, and more).
My D also said that if anyone has questions she’d be happy to answer them or meet up with prospective students when you visit—you can message me and I can give you info on how to connect with her! She’s a political science major and French minor (so far) and her roommate is a science major.
@913cms my DD did not get a travel stipend. Where did you see that one was being offered to you? Have you visited the campus before? If not, perhaps that is why it was offered to you?
@outthedoor i was emailed about it and when i clicked the link in my portal to register it gave me more information. i actually have visited, but im from texas and traveling to mhc is expensive bc its so far away so maybe thats why i got it
@913cms, if you don’t mind me asking, did you also qualify for a lot of need-based financial aid or merit aid (and that’s how they’re deciding who gets the travel stipends)? We didn’t receive nearly enough aid - and much less than other schools offered. We’d also be traveling from the west coast.
@Westcoaster2018 i got about 20k in aid and no merit aid. i have no idea why i got it, maybe each admissions counselor chose a couple of admits per region that they were responsible for?
@Westcoaster2018 sorry, i actually got about 28k in aid. im not sure how it compares to other people though so i cant say if its technically a lot of aid but theres still a lot that i have to pay out of pocket
I wonder if the people who did NOT get travel $$ signed up for the admitted students day right away, and they offered to people who had not (to entice them)? Who knows.
Hmm, my D got $33K in need-based grants and that is still a big-to-impossible stretch for us. Strange! Maybe your application was ranked higher, @913cms? I’ll make sure she’s been checking her email…
MHC rejected me but I got in Haverford on a $72,000 scholarship per year for four years (120%¿) Im so grateful and super excited!!! Congrats to all who got accepted:relaxed:
Is anyone else attending Smith’s and MHC’s admitted student program on that weekend and need somewhere to stay on April 14? I think I have to get a hotel, but I really don’t want to stay in a hotel room alone. Weird how it’s almost purposefully on the same weekend but not in a way that connects?
