You girls all seem amazing. I hope you can all get into MHC or the college which is the perfect fit for you. I’m sure you girls will thrive wherever you go. Good luck and hope we can study together in the fall. :)

I originally applied to some large Us, then I realized what I’ve been seeking is a close-knit community, where professors are approachable and students are nice. And I’m not very sure what I will study, so I want to have more options. I think I will be much happier at a small LAC, so I applied to Mount Holyoke, Smith, Bryn Mawr and Franklin&Marshall College. But now my other applications won’t matter any more because MHC is my first choice.

That’s awesome. I’ve applied to Mount Holyoke, Hampshire (safety), Sarah Lawrence, Bates, Bowdoin, Pitzer, Goucher, Connecticut, Bard & Furman.

Mount Holyoke, Bates & Bowdoin are certainly my top three. I learned from my mistakes and didn’t rush my application to Bates & Bowdoin. Both the essays and the Common App I submitted to B&B are considerably stronger than my MH application. I was sure to list all of my achievements, as well as my background. My ChemPhys Honours teacher came back from maternity leave, and was able to give her letter of recommendation to B&B also. Bowdoin also give you an option to upload any extra info that isn’t expressed in the Common App, so that was also a plus as I have a bit of a unique story.

I should’ve probably waited until late December to apply to Mount Holyoke. Although, being deferred was probably for the best, as I have now been able to research other colleges. I’ve realized how much I like them, as well as MoHo!

I want to study Music and Africana Studies. If I get into Mount Holyoke or Hampshire, then I’ll also be doing a Five College Certificate in Ethnomusicology. I want to be an Ethnomusicologist.

I love hearing all of your stories and where you’re all from etc. :)

Shirleyxxy, I am going to study Economics But I like learning a lot of things, so I may even take up something else which I never thought of!
Btw Shirleyxxy, how is the financial aid at MHC for internationals?

@shirleyxxy
I wanna study Neuroscience. I was born ambidextrous, so I get so curious about the mind and everything.
Again, I really love music , but I really don’t know much about MHC’s musical programs.

Oh and @Foodie, I heard the aid for internationals is great. A friend of mine, a current student dosent pay more than $3k a year. They are very generous with their aid packages…

I love hearing your stories, too! It seems MHC does have students from all over the world. @LrockinLDN
Why are you interested in Africana Studies? I’m kind of curious because it seems to me a very unique interest.
I don’t know much about music, but I can play the piano(not very well due to lack of practice).
I love Imagine Dragons and some pure music. @foodie
I applied FA but it isn’t as good as I expected.
My parents have to pay $10k more than we thought. But I’m a lucky girl, I talked with my parents and they are willing to pay the extra $10k. I’m sorry if it is bad news to you, but I did hear a lot about MHC’s generous FA packages. I think there’re many factors for them to decide how much aid they give you, so don’t worry. I hope you girls have better luck and receive aid that can meet 100% of your demonstrated need. @Ellaar
Being ambidextrous is cool. I am so awkward with my left hand. I want to major in chemistry/biochemistry/neuroscience kind of stuff, but I’m not sure.

@Shirley, my father is Nigerian (mother is British) so it’s kind of a natural interest. My dad was around in the 60’s, and was a bit of an activist in regard to equal rights and racial equality. Runs in the family lol

I’ve been self-teaching piano and guitar for years! Started learning to read a couple of years ago.

I literally need full aid, aside from the $6,000 I will make from work. My parents don’t have much. :s

I believe they assess very carefully. Hope you girls can get full grants. I know a girl who received much financial aid, but the aid package contained some loans and she had to pay back much money after graduation. Don’t worry too much though, I think MHC is generous and you girls will work out the best solution.
LrockinLDN, you have such a unique family background. I’m sure MHC will love your stories! Good luck with your FA package, college applications and music career. :)

@shirleyxxy
Don’t worry, if you’re not okay with your aid package, you can still call the school and explain your financial need. You are very lucky your parents agreed. I’m happy for you ^^ don’t be sad

Even I need Financial aid to a major extent I hope thats not a negative factor.
I wish everything works out for us. We have worked hard all r lives and it should pay off some day
And I have also applied SAT optional. I hope thats okay.

@ellaar, really!? Wow, what are the odds! Where is your mum from? That’s awesome.

@foodie, yeah, we sure have worked hard. I applied without SAT’s also. If you ask them not to consider your scores, it will not be held against you. It’s SAT optional for a reason. :-)

LrockinLDN, Yes true
Its so nice talking to all of you. We all maybe different by ethnicity, but we have such similar aspirations!
It feels good to wait together at this crucial juncture of our lives! :)

Ugh, tell me about it. It’s great to have people to wait with. All of my friends in the UK are either working or already at university, so no one can really relate right now haha.

I can’t wait until the decisions from all the colleges roll in and we can announce our acceptances (hopefully :P).

I know right, I check my ISIS atleast 3 times everyday. Its become an obsession
Actually, I wasnt really aware of the fact that people from India go abroad for a bachelors degree 'coz an American education is really expensive. So I started my applications really late. I realized in Jan that I like the liberal arts college concept. But because of the deadlines, I couldn’t apply to any other liberal arts colleges except holyoke. Holyoke was always my 1st choice.
This waiting period is stressful! :(
