Mount Holyoke RD 2018 Official Thread!!!

Although I’m from London, 6hrs isn’t too big of a big deal. However, flights prices are a big deal! Lmao. I took a virtual tour, too. @Shirleyxxy :)

Also @iddy09, welcome!

Thanks! And that’s great! I visited over the summer on gross, humid, rainy day, but I still loved it! It’s seriously so beautiful! The pictures dont really do it justice! Are you girls applying to any other sister schools/LACs?

@LrockinLDN I saw your schools :)

@iddy09
I applied to 4 LACs: Mount Holyoke, Smith, Bryn Mawr and Franklin&Marshall.
Visiting must be great! MHC is seriously beautiful even in my virtual tour…
I expect many beautiful winter days in my college life. The winter now in my area is very mild. The temperature is around 20°C(68°F) these days.
I heard MHC is in the middle of nowhere. Do you know how long it takes to go to Northampton/Amherst/Springfield? :slight_smile:

@Shirleyxxy Cool! I also applied to Smith and Bryn Mawr :slight_smile: I live super close to Bryn Mawr so I’ve gone a few times! When I went from Smith to Mount Holyoke, the car ride was less than half an hour, so not too long! Northampton is a fun town! And hey, your weather sounds perfect! Right now, it’s unseasonably warm at 47 degrees F where I am :(

Hey nice to meet y’all on this forum… I guess I’ll be attending MHC in the fall too :slight_smile:

@Shirleyxxy
I’m guessing you’re international. Just make sure you bring along a nice winter jacket and gloves… and maybe a hat… or a few hats… New England winters are notorious for cold weather and snow! (I should know, after living here all my life haha)
I’ve visited and the campus is really lovely… you’ll really enjoy it! I was in awe the first time I visited… e
They have buses that run throughout the five colleges, and to Boston too, so if you ever feel stranded civilization is not too far away.

@Shirleyxxy From MoHo to Northampton it is 30 mins by the bus (PVTA) and to Amherst it is also 30 mins; different buses. Both of the buses are free. I’m not sure about Springfield as I do not believe that there is a direct PVTA bus to there. Lesfromages is right there are buses that go to Boston and New York City everyweek. If you leave on Friday and come back on Saturday, the buses are direct. It’s not a bad ride; they’re peterpan coach buses and have free internet on them.
The winters are cold and there is snow, but I don’t believe that they are bad like others. I’ve spent the first half of my life in Alaska and the second part in New England. Maybe I’m just used to very cold weather.

Thank you girls!! People are really nice in this thread! :smiley:
I’m an international student and I consider my coming college life as a great adventure. Everything is going to be drastically different. :slight_smile: Right now the weather in my area is unseasonably warm, too. It should be around 40~50°F typically. Anyway, I’m gonna experience those New England winters, hope I enjoy them. :slight_smile:
I doubt I’ll feel stranded on campus. I love a relatively quiet atmosphere and MHC has so many things to offer! Probably I’ll become very busy trying to adjust, meeting new people, learning new stuff…
Oh,I don’t know there are buses that go to Boston every week. Free internet sounds cool! :D

Hey girls! Thanks for being so informative. This thread is awesome!

Hey :slight_smile:
I also applied RD and received a book (it was so strange indeed :D)
Did you girls have interviews?

Yeah, if you’re able to have an interview it really helps (I’m not sure if it’s too late?)… I’m pretty sure that’s actually what helped me get accepted, since I was able to explain some things about my grades and classes and such, and they figured out what kind of person I am.
And also my interviewer seemed amused by me (and was also super sweet). So either my face is really funny looking or she appreciated my wit… ^_^

^
When did you apply?
My interviewer was also very friendly and helpful :)

Yeah, I had a phone interview with an alum here in London. It was around late December.

hi girls :smiley: I’m an international student from Vietnam and I applied to MHC RD as well.
I didn’t have the chance to request an interview (decided to apply to MHC too late, partly because it always seemed like a huge reach for me). And MHC accepted nearly 10 students in my country from EDI and EDII pool, so I’m super worried about my chance now :frowning:
Just really wish they would accept me and all you guys because you are all so nice and I really want to meet all of you ^^

@Semzm33
I applied ED II.

^And you might be surprised. I really thought this school was out of my league and I got accepted. If you have enough ECs and a unique essay then you may be fine. Trust me, some of my grades dipped into the C/D range on occasion… and to be honest, at times I could’ve taken more A.P. and Honors classes.

@lesfromages do you mind me asking what your essay was about? MHC is my top choice school but it’s also my reach. I didn’t apply to any schools near MHC, Smith, Bryn Mawr etc. But I had an interview which I hope went well and I thought my essay was pretty good… fingers crossed I’m kind of just waiting at this point… and yeah I got 2 C+s for final grades last year and I honestly thought my life was over… my GPA dipped and now I have a 3.2

Hey everyone! I’m an international student from Jordan and Mount Holyoke College is currently my only hope at studying in the US. I just wanted to say hello and wish you luck, you all seem like wonderful ladies :slight_smile: Has anyone received anything yet, or do we have to wait precisely till April first for the decisions? Best of luck!

^Well, they say Apil 1 but 2 years ago they came out on Friday, 3/23 and last year they came out on Friday, 3/22 so I would be guessing that they might come out this year on Friday, 3/21. Just a guess on my part …

I hope so :slight_smile: thanks!
