So I got into GWU and am trying to decide between there and a few others...I'm curious about "the Vern" as its been called. What is the architecture like, modern or classical? Is this campus exclusively GWU, like a true suburban college? How many acres? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks a million.

I visited GW last fall and had a private tour of the Vern. It was actually very nice, relaxing after spending the day in the hustle/bustle of foggy bottom. The buildings are brick and look newer but classic. I am pretty sure the Mount Vernon campus was an all womens college that GW purchased and incorporated so the buildings maybe older than they look. They sort of form a 3/4 circle around a large grass quad area where guys were tossing a football around. The dorms were really nice and the cafeteria was more like a traditional campus but everything looked good. I am not sure about the acreage but it seemed small, easy to get around, lots of trees and grass and had a great view of the athletic fields. I heard there was a large pool there too but didn’t see that. All the students seemed to know each other well, it felt kind of like a small close community. A group was sitting outside at a supersized, circular, picnic table but were interacting with other students as they came and went. Oh…it is exclusively a GW campus. Hope that helps!

That’s a pretty solid write-up actually, so thanks! I’m visting GWU tomorrow actually so I’ll see it then!

Post your thoughts when you get back!

So I went to visit GWU last weekend and loved it, ultimately deciding to go there next year. As far as the Mount Vernon campus is concerned, it’s OKAY. I liked it, and the athletic facilities (specifically the tennis courts) are very nice, but it was much smaller than I imagined. It was pretty, but just isn’t for me. I seriously hope to live in Foggy Bottom next year.

I decided against the Vern also, but realized that it might be a great place to escape to during finals or a day when you want to get some tennis in, etc. GW gives you the best of both worlds!

A current Mt. Ver student told me that Somer’s Hall is quiet and nice, and a blog away from German Embassy. Moreover, you could rent a bike by free…

I will be in Somer’s. And it sounds good to me… :)
