anyone read this yet? does it matter if we do?

I sold mine on Amazon couple days after orientation.

I read the back cover, made a “9__9;;” face, and read another book instead. Heh

Cal kids got a cooler book though, “The Omnivore’s Dilemma.” ):

It was a surprisingly good read when I read it last year. It’s a quick read too, maybe 3-4 hours.

How much did you get?

I might just read it anyway because it looks kind of interesting, but is it REALLY required reading, or is it just “required” reading?

“Required” I think they did it with Hedrick Summit last year.

you sold it on amazon? we had to give it back

Im in the process of reading it. Idk how you can read all of it in 4 hours, I cant. Maybe a day if I were into it, but I really hate biographies so it’s taking me a long time. I read things fall apart earlier this summer and reading this is harder because Im sick of hearing about Africa.

Haiti? Africa? Have you looked at a map lately?~!

Woops, my mistake. You can see how much Im not paying attention to the novel.

yep haiti is definitely in africa. :D

the book is ok, not as interesting as berkeley’s summer reading.

Wait we have to give the book back?

I got like 15 bucks for it. I sold it a collectible - UCLA edition.

uhhh. reading this book was optional, right??? my counselor at orientation said “you guys can read it if you want…”

but i’ve heard it’s required??? did anyone else NOT read this book?

books at orientation? what the heck lol. where have i been?

i haven’t read it. i did not get it at orientation…so i ordered it. but its just “there”
i don’t think i’ll even bother to open it. they can’t force me to read anything. are they gonna like ask me to give them a summary of the book in order to access my dorm? i don’t think so…

so what’s the consensus? do we HAVE to read it or do we not have to?

in any case, i probably won’t read it

you don’t HAVE to read it.
It’s really good though :)

This is a free country. You’re adults. They can’t make you read it.

What my counselor said, “You can throw it away if you want.” UCLA’s trying to promote their book club.

lol, I don’t get why you guys care if you have to read it or not, it’s not like you’ll do it anyways. (cough Sparknotes cough)
