Move-in Assistant

When can we sign up to do this for the fall?

your RD will email you sometime over the summer.

ok cool, cuz that's something i want to do

Thinking of the summer already?

you mean you're already planning to move back 4 days early? yeah you wont even get an email till august from your RD or residence hall president.

What're the perks of being a move-in assistant?

Pros
1. Moving in early
2. MIA t-shirt

Cons
1. Moving in early - you're hall is going to be empty.

^ I would call that last one a pro - avoid the rush, so you're moved in when everyone else is rushing around

Yeah, that's what I thought about last year.
But then my roommate felt so alone and scared in our plaza and there was barely anybody in the bldg.

So it's a pro and con. Depending on how you look at it and if you prefer company.

psh. big pro. i move in one week before school each year cuz of marching band... it is SOOO nice to avoid all the congestion and take my time moving in.

last year i got to pick what i wanted in my triple. this year, it was nice to not have to wait in line to move my stuff up 7 floors in the elevator...

How busy are you as a move-in assistant? I'm actually hoping there will be a lot of stuff for us to do. Also is it really lonely if you move in 4 days early? It seems like there will be many people at school already :)

will we have nights free?

You help decorate the doors, lounge and junk.

you get plenty of time off as an MIA. its 4-6 hours a day, and not nights (except teh first night). its a bit lonely but meet other MIAs plus your RAs and student leaders. plus its like 3 days before everyone moves in so not that long

cool. i want the nights off =]

Thanks namaste. This sounds stalkish, but I read some of your previous posts about getting involved in residential life since day one, and being an RA or at least part of student staff is something I want to do eventually.

whats with this "if you are MIA at sproul you can't move in before 5pm and after 7pm"? thats a pretty tight time window for LA traffic...

De Neve is the same. No move-in before 5.

i'm scheduled to move in at 9pm on the 19th... will it still be crazy at that time?

^ it's always crazy move-in week >.<

prolly a little less so, but still.

tip: if you're there during move-in and not moving in, DO NOT TAKE THE ELEVATOR!!! don't even think about it. just don't. not gonna happen.
