Move In Assistant

If anybody has been a UCLA Housing Move In Assistant, could you tell me how that went? Is it worth it? Is it any fun? Is it really time consuming? I applied for it and we'll see how that goes. My scheduled move-in is on the 16th, so moving in on the 14th wouldn't be too much of a difference. I just want to know if it really is worth the free shirt and early move-in. Thanks :)

I did it last year and applied for it again this year. The only problem about MIA is that you might miss Bruin Bash and Enormous Activities Fair. I would email the coordinator for your area and ask for certain times so you can attend at least part of those events. Last year I ended up having to cover during Bruin Bash because the person whose shift it was bailed to go to the concert.

As far as positives go, you end up having random conversations during down time in your shift, you meet lots of people, you know who your RA is and decorate. You play ice breaker games and get free meals those days you are helping. Plus I guess you get to see all the new students first and get to greet your friends when they move in. I kind of see it as an extended zero week, with extra work of course!

if i apply as a MIA does that mean i am automatically selected to be a MIA? or is there going to be a interview process?? i really want to be a MIA.

okay, i changed my mind. i dont want to be an MIA. i dont want to miss bruin bash! nor the activities fair! i only move-in as a freshman once! i dont want to tarnish that experience, even though i’m sure being an MIA has its benefits. i’ll do it next year. :)

@xtasys-no interview, they kind of lag on confirming so prob early sep, or aug 30-ish they will send details. It’s not very competitive…they are just bad about telling people the final details in a timely manner

@mattmorenz-wise decision, lol.

@sapphire_ocean:

Did you have any free time to go out, or was it practically a full-time job?

woooohooo i got a confirmation to be a MIA! :).the rieber terrance director told me that mia’s are able to attend bruin bash.

@auxportes- you have shifts so yes you have free time. I can’t recall exact hours but it’s not enough to go exploring Los Angeles or anything like that.
