I heard that we move in starting Sept 18th-20th, is that correct?

Also, what time can we get there the earliest and can we go there on the first day and just drop off our stuff and come back the next day or so?

for the past 2 years its that weekend (i think 18th is friday right?) so heres the rundown of move in: you park your car in the assigned parking lot, go to the frontdesk to check in, they’ll give you a roomkey with instructions, go check out a move in cart with an ID (drivers license, credit card, etc, just an collateral, sometimes people laugh when we say creditcard is ok while they act like we are gonna steal it but we just hold on to it so you return the cart) anyways, get your cart, move in, hangout around the floor, meet the RA and floormates, there should be floor lunch/dinners on most of zero week, good chance to meet people… and lastly i don’t think you should go back home and come back the day after (unless you are a 2nd year and don’t really care about meeting people)

would there be food all weekend? when can we start using our meal plan?

your meal plan will have started by then yes

Ahh, thanks for the info!

So this cart thing that we “borrow” is just so we can use it to help bring everything over right?

yep its just a small cart

^ its not really that small - the carts are a pretty decent size, and you can load tons of stuff into them.

The cart’s about waist high and I would guess 4’x3’?

It takes me about 2-3 trips to move everything.

Cool. thanks for all the info guys.

any more tips/advice you suggest while moving in?

oh and for alll the other incoming freshmen, move in dates are the 17th-20th, not 18th-20th. notmuch of a difference but just incase anyone else was wondering

what if there’s a conflict with your move-in dates, and you need to go, say a few days earlier. Is that possible? I am guessing we need to pay for the days we’re going to stay. Does anyone have any information about this?

17th really? they always did it starting friday, i wonder what made them to start on thursday this year

doubledice, you can try to apply for move in assistant (although they want upperclass men who know the process already and can give out directions to parents) if you want to move in early, if you don’t want to do that i think there is a fee if you are willing to pay to move in (not sure really) or you can always move in the week afterwards if you completely can’t move in during those 3 days (or 4 apparently, might want to double check)

So can you move in on Friday is you’re actually suppose to move in on Sunday? (for example)

when they give move in dates, the past two years there has been a menu that lets you switch to available times the other two days by just checking a box and clicking submit, so you can change from sunday to friday or w/e

are there any benefits to going early other than meeting others?

not really, some freshmen tends to be a bit anxious when it comes to move in so they want to move in early :D

Well if you get there early, you can choose the bed/closet/desk you want

when you choose an alternate move in time, theres one that says movin on thursday. it doesn’t say anything about an extra charge though

while we are talking about picking desks and beds i’ll share my experience and opinion on how to pick:
BED: if you don’t like people sitting on your stuff, pick the top beds,
if you sleep early and don’t like the light, pick the top beds
if you like to look at a poster when you wake up, pick the top beds (i put one on the ceiling lol)
for certain rooms: if you like the AC pick the top beds (the wind will blow at you more that way)
if you have sex a lot take the bottom bed
if you don’t like to make your bed all the time, take the top bed

as for desks, if you get a top bed, pick the desk next to it so you can step on it to climb up, if you have the bottom bed, try to survive with the desk under the loft, which makes your roommate’s life easier getting up and down, happy roommates=better experience, unless you are the ones that just wants all the best stuff and don’t care about sharing with other people, then pick the desk next to your bed so you can access the stuff on it easier (alarms, light, books, etc)

I’m guess you’re leaning more towards the top beds. What if you just tell your roommates to not sit on the bed (if you get the bottom one :P) or buy a rug? Isn’t it annoying or tiring to climb up and down whenever you wake up or go to sleep (when you’re groggy and tired)?

The thing is, the bottom bed is pretty much the couch of the entire room. When people come over, theyre probably going to sit there. Lay down there if theyre bold enough. You don’t get that problem with the top bed it’s less convenient.
