what if you arrived a few hours earlier than your assigned time? Will they NOT allow you to move in?

so for sure for sure…if i request to move in thursday…nothing will happen? as in i wont get charged? :)

so i called them at rieber terrace front desk just now. They said that move-in dates are technically friday- sunday. Anytime before that would be considered early move-in, so there would be fees that will be charged.

i guess ill just stick with friday lol

Yes, the move in dates are technically Friday - Sunday of the weekend before school starts, at least it has been for almost all of the previous years.
So if that’s true (which I’m not quite sure if it is), then Thursday is probably the early move-in date, and for almost all of the previous years, there have been fees attached to moving in early (unless you’re helping with the move-in or dorm activities (like move-in assistant, student leader, etc…) - that’s a different story).
But usually you’ll have to request (and by request, I mean call or email) the individual housing complex you’re going to live in for early move-in, and they will give you a date - meaning you can’t simply sign up on the website. But I’m not sure if they changed it this year.

i mean if they changed it this year, why is the person from the frontdesk telling me that they will charge a fee if we come in earlier?? Man, ucla housing this year sucks.

conn1ex3, front desk workers are students. they may not be up to date on the current policies, or be misinformed.

it wasnt a student. The first person i talked to was a student who had no idea what he was talking about so i asked for the person in charge who told me that they will charge the fee. It would be nice to come in earlier without a fee though.

I’d recommend caution to those expecting to move-in early for free. I moved in early last year (well aware of, and willing to pay, the fee) and while you did not pay the fee when you selected the early date, the $75 was charged to your housing account. I don’t think it is very likely for them to have dropped the charge.

^ read nvasquez91’s comment.
does the fee vary by housing location? :/

its only like 1 day early plus almost no one will be in the dorms, why is it so important to move in on thursday?

when they had the live chat thing i asked them if there were any fees taht came with moving in on thursday and they said absolutely not…

At any rate–
On this thread, I know there were a couple people who have already selected early move-in. Could one of you guys check your housing account and see if you have a positive balance? I believe that would solve this whole discussion…

I emailed “ask housing”…and this is what I got:
Thank you for using Ask Housing.

You will not be charged an extra fee for moving in on September 17th. Be sure that you pick your alternate move in date by logging into the Moving In web page.

We hope you find the database useful. Our goal is to provide answers twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. We will continue to add and update answers on a regular basis.

Thank You,

soooo…im guessing no charge? :)

It appears as that. But at the very minimum, if they DO charge you for thursday, you can use that askHousing response to protest the charge.

how’s the traffic during moving days? I heard that morning’s pretty good and afternoons are bad…?

anyone know if university apartments are as lenient as the dorms for moving in checkin time? im planning to arrive early to drop off stuff before heading to lax since its on the way but no idea if they’ll let me in, and i can’t sign up for a earlier time because they only have later time slots

kick53rv3, what apartments are you in?

Glenrock west

got the same thing! let’s hope there’s no charge!

I’m moving into the university apartments this year, but since I have a family thing to go to on Sunday I can’t move in until Monday. I forgot to request a different move-in time (I was assigned Sunday morning) since I’m just used to the dorms where they don’t really care when you move in. But since I forgot to request a later move-in, will there still be someone there to give me my room key on Monday?
