I agree with mom above. We went to PW this year and was disappointed. Our other son graduated from George Washington University and they had a weekend full of fun events for the family. CMU’s parent weekend is about seeing your child and because we were new to Pittsburgh and expected programs for families on the weekend we did not look into other activities. We also went to a show which was excellent, but we are also going a different weekend next school year. The hotels seem to be priced higher on PW and hopefully it woun’t be as crowded on campus.

I just booked a room and my plane ride for the 14th. I’ll be flying in by myself. Will it be okay? I’m just a bit nervous that I’ll see everybody spending some moments before their goodbye with their family and I’ll be the only one who’s there by myself looking rather helpless on the move-in day.

Don’t worry Alfie Byrne, you are not the only one moving in alone. International students, students whose parents live abroad, some others with various issues so that their parents not coming, etc. So it’s going to be OKAY.

Without parents going with you, it’s probably gonna save you some tears also.

Alfie…you’ll already know and have contacted your roommate…chances are you can try to connect on Saturday the evening before. You will not be alone - many people come without parents.

hey Alfie, it’s cool, my parents aren’t coming with me either

When I called to make reservations at Holiday Inn, they told me they had rooms reserved for students coming in w/out parents SO I am sure you will have some company.
