I'm making flight reservations for my daughter to go to Berkeley in the Fall and am unsure as to which day she should arrive on campus. The pertinent website says, "Fall Move-in is on August 23rd and 24th, 2008 at 10:00 am!", but the "When Can I Move in?" FAQ says, "All residence halls will open for check-in beginning at 10:00 am on Sunday, August 24, 2008."

Obviously, I'll call tomorrow for clarification but I wonder if anyone can enlighten me before that.

The way it's worked in the past is that those in triples in the units get to move in on Sat., and everyone else moves in on Sunday.

There used to be welcome week following the move-in days, and this fall, it's been reduced to, uh, I guess you'd say welcome 2 days. Doesn't give the new student much time to get acclimated, purchase books, location of class rooms, find out how to get from one class to the next in 10 min., etc.

If you are planning to go with your daughter to get her settled in, you should make hotel reservations NOW.

Thanks UCLA, that's the kind of info I was hoping to glean. We just returned from a weekend in Berkeley and my daughter feels confident she can get herself there and settled come move-in day, plus she'll be going to Calso in June on her own, so no hotel room for me! :o
