move-in day, how hard is it? Help Syracuse Moms

Well, because of financial emergency, my daughter seems to be doing her Move-In all by herself. I am pretty sad because for me it was a right of passage, letting go of my daughter into her new chapter in life. So, my question is, how hard is it. Can I order her stuff online and have them delivered to her dorm, now that we know her room. Is it possible? Oh moms of students here, need your expertise advice.

So sorry you cannot be there but I would have loved to skip this episode freshman year. That being said…

The Goon Squad is a group of upperclassman who will meet your d at her dorm (which one btw?) at her car with huge laundry carts. She will be helped emptying and will be directed to a table where she will pick up her keys and meet the squad at her room. Easy as pie. If she does not have a car, same procedure by whatever way she arrives at her dorm

Bed bath and beyond has an outpost somewhere on campus. This started in 2009. You need to find out if their pack and hold service is available to that location. If it isn’t, the only way to get pak and hold is
by car.

I do not know procedure for sending stuff ahead but I can betbthey have one; tons of kids do this. My d’s freshman roomie was from Puerto Rico

Any other questions, pls feel free

I’m sure it is sad for you to not share this passage, but as rodney indicated, there is lots of help on move-in day. In terms of getting items sent to the dorm, you might want to call the SU bookstore and tell them your predicament. They have given us lots of good advice in the past. You should also call the Parents Office and ask them for ideas, as they are also very helpful. I am sure that there are many students, especially from overseas, who move in by themselves. Also, remember that many things are not needed right away - as long as you have hot weather clothes, books, and a computer you are all set for the first few weeks. So she has time to figure it out. She will also be able to talk to her roommate who might be able to help.
As a comparison, my son’s freshman roomie (different school) came from India with two suitcases(one packed mostly with packaged food) and hardly bought anything else.

Thank you both for your kind and recommendations. I took your advice in writing to the Parents Office for more information about the process of Move-In day. Thanks Two…
I am buying her room necessities on-line and requesting be delivered to her dorm now that we have the information. Was asking when to arrive and picking up her id.

Sad cause I wanted to be there for her and help her decorate her room and see her room and stuff.
